In a recent Drink Champs podcast with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN, Vince Staples revealed that Mac Miller did not take any royalties for their collaborative project, Stolen Youth.

Staples begins by telling the story of how the two came to work on the mixtape and how Earl Sweatshirt was the first to introduce both of them. When recalls the moment he met Mac sharing, “I introduced myself to Mac and he was like, ‘I know who you are why don’t you make beats or whatever why don’t you make music,’ and I say, ‘I don’t got no beats and he’s like, ‘Aight, I’m making some beats come over here on Friday,’ and then that’s how we ended up making music and being cool.”

His friendship with Mac blossomed over the years and in 2013, it paved way for Mac to executive produce Staples’ breakout album Stolen Youth. Staples was shocked when Mac decided to give him full ownership of the album. Staples reveals, “And then he took me on tour and he didn’t want no publishing. He said, ‘If you make a million dollars buy me a S-Class Benz or something like that,’ the whole project Stolen Youth he gave me ownership of it. He just said, if you if you make a gang of money just give me like a S-Class — and then took me on the road and paid for my room and board and still paid me. So yeah you know that was the homie.”

Mac was such a great human.

It’s a shame we just started to see his transformation as an artist take place.

He was truly about to blossom into something very special. It’s not fair to him that we didn’t get to see his final form.
