Why I think it was an OG beat on Dram song that Drake remade ? The way Dram was talking at the time.

Saw a clip on Nardwaur of Timmy Thomas thanking drake for using the original sample on Hotline Bling so he got paid ?

Also can’t find Dram version on streaming. Did they not clear the OG song ?

HLB was never a Cha Cha remix.

DRAM didn’t sample the Timmy Thomas song. He sampled Super Mario.

The reason people thought it was a remix was because a short snippet song LEAKED, ironically from Drake sxn LOL.

The beats sound a little similar so people assumed it was a Cha Cha Remix but that’s was never the case.

Drake did the honorable thing and found a different sample so he didn't have to credit Dram. Then he renamed it to Hotline Bling so he didn't have to credit Timmy Thomas.

what does renaming a song have to do with crediting sampled artists? Timmy Thomas is credited.

You're wording this like Drake is a producer lmao. Also DRAM didn't do anything but jack a beat/ sample. His must not have not got the right clearance anyway because all I see on streaming is funny remixes of cha cha

was that a mistake or something because nobody at OVO did that? (inc Drake)

Dram a leading example of how 2 keep it moving after an altercation with Chubbs

This was the mistake that had people thinking Hotline Bling had anything to do with Cha Cha. I hope the employee who tweeted that got fired.

Nothing about Hotline Bling is similar to Cha Cha. Not the beat. Not the sample. Not the flow. Not what the song is about. Absolutely nothing.

DRAM was reaching with his claims and I'm glad he's been reduced to being irrelevant since then. And he credited Timmy Thomas with a writing credit. He didn't need to credit him with a feature?

this why DRAM change his name?

  • Jan 29, 2021

This whole "Drake stole cha cha" is so stupid, you think Drake told his producers to make a beat that sounds like that

  • Jan 29, 2021

Also DRAM didnt get blackballed cause of this cause he opened for Kendrick during the DAMN tour in 2017

Drake spoke about the connection between the songs in the course of his interview with The FADER—though his comments haven’t been published until now. Responding to a question about a sunnier vibe to some of his summer output—see also “Sweeterman,” another riff on an existing song—he seems to acknowledge that “Hotline Bling” was based on “Cha Cha” and describes the song as a modern-rap equivalent to a dancehall artist recording their own spin on a hot riddim.

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”
