  • I always see people switch these 2 out for a spot in the big 3. The blog era showed a lot of love to Cole but a lot more people in the culture recognize Future's run as being more concise and dominant. He definitely scored more higher points than Cole but his low points were lower than his so I guess he didn't average the same.

What is your take? I see more people trying to copy Future (Uzi, Juice, etc) than Cole who really still sounds like a Jay meets Nas but hasn't really carved out his own unique sound yet. I love them both but revisit DS2, Monster, WATTBA, FUTURE and HNDRXX more than anything except Forest Hills Drive.

Nope. Future should have been the one in top 3 instead of Cole in retrospect. But at that time people were categorising rappers in 'real hiphop' and 'mumble rap'

Techincally true but I wouldn't say it's difficult to imitate Cole

  • No but influence ain’t everything, influence is actually overrated in these discussions imo

would be way easier for me to rap about basic college freshman ideas over sleepy production than access the pain it took to make Groupies or Throw Away

  • Sep 17, 2021

Future has that stroke of genius that only some have and that can’t be replicated. J Cole does not have that.

  • Sep 17, 2021

    Cole hate thread in disguise

  • Sep 17, 2021

    Probably not.

At the same time, though, a good portion of Future's influence on newer rappers is actually Wayne's, Thugger's, and Keef's influence.

People just attribute it to Future due to similar sounding production.
