We use numbers to calculate things into human terms... think of all the things we calculate but are probably guesses but because of science and math it’s a pretty good guess

    Invented

Discovered. it’s a concept, It’s not something humans created

It’s something that has always existed, which means we discovered it rather than invented it, as it’s impossible to “invent” something that has always been there

    Evidence??

    Edit:
It’s never “always” existed. It’s takes a certain amount brain power to comprehend addiction and such. Animals don’t add

Um......I don’t know how you want me to respond to this lol. Math is a concept that has always existed, humans just discovered it and quantified it

  • Jul 31, 2020

The real question is, is there a difference between invention and discovery?

Why is maths a concept that has always existed?

Because 1+1 was always 2 before humans created numbers, you know what I mean? As in mathematical laws and rules were always true even before humans discovered them.

1 and 1 and 2 are completely abstract objects

math is a manmade concept that explains numerical relationships that occur in the natural world and equally manmade hypothetical world

    it was invented

But is that hypothetical world really manmade? Connections get made to the real world from abstract math often

  • Jbreezyondeck

I mean math controls everything lol. Math controls money. Math controls nature. It’s the only true fact of life fr

you cant have two of anything you can only have one of each

What do you say about concepts in math that have emerged simultaneously from two different mathematicians then?

    ???????? I’m confused

when you say 1+1 has always equaled two before we created numbers, what real object equates to 1? Because everything can be broken down or compounded

If you limit your scope to our basic human perception of objects then sure you could say that theres one rock here and ten trees there but that's still a human's perspective on it

I mean I guess I was referring to objects, for example 1 dinosaur with another dinosaur was always two dinosaurs, even if there weren’t any species around to make sense of anything. The concept of quantity wasn’t something that came into existence once humans started existing, we were just the first species to quantify math.

isn't mathmatics just the word we give to humans studying and discussing these phenomena, I don't think we label the phenomena itslef "mathmatics". so it actually may both be invented and discovered

So quantity existed but mathematics was invented?

I suppose it depends on if you view the word mathematics as the concept or the study, as you just said. Semantics I guess
