just got back from seeing this; my god were my expectations blown away. on a technical level, not only the most elaborate and inventive of wes’ films, but perhaps of any film i’ve ever seen. reminded me of ‘playtime’ in that sense. hilarious as expected, but not afraid to get serious with its commentary either. perfect cast with a lot of my favourite performances in a wes anderson movie too. léa seydoux not a single complaint about it tbh. every single shot blew me away, every single line felt purposeful, every single character felt fleshed out, every single moment was enjoyable. all with relentless energy as you hop from one perfect story to the next. it’s everything i want and expect from wes and far more.
i’m actually f***ing ecstatic that was so perfect teared up when the credits rolled not for any specific reason but just bcuz of how amazed i was

Really? That’s amazing and makes me hype. I’ve heard people say the opposite, and that it’s just overwritten and washed over them and made 0 effect.

to be frank boss, i’m easily impressed with a lot of movies if they can tug at my heart strings.
as to your point, yes, the stories seemed to have that effect but as they progressed, i felt more engaged emotionally. i’ll say this is the most “wes anderson “ his movies can get... the quick back and forth dialogue is turned up to 10..
but it’s certainly got some philosophical(???) dialogue in this, that was not so present in his last few movies. it’s more nuanced but someone like you should be able to easily pick up on the themes. there’s commentary on commodifying modern art... war.. relationships.. loneliness.
i gave it a 4/5
