Not really comparable
You can join the military without being a combatant or having an effect on peoples lives.
A lot of military mfs never leave the states
? Everyone in the military is under contractual agreement that they may one day need to engage warfare and potentially kill or be killed. Whether or not it happens or they want to is irrelevant, they are still of the mentality.

I was mostly comparing the argument of “why serve a country that doesn’t care about you” it applies to the police force too. And in most cases, the main drive is money. It’s why I joined in the first place.
Like @BlackOlympian said though, legacy is part of it too. Which could apply to being a cop too. If Dad was a cop, the son/daughter or whoever could just follow in their footsteps.

This too
Played football with a kid that became a cop, always seemed like he liked hurting people 🤷♀️
you expect us to give you the answer for another human being, who's life is composed of an infinite amount of outcomes and situations that affected their decisions in why they chose their career? when most of this generation don't even know what they want in their own life?
To make a difference in their community and combat everything you’re saying in OP is probably the answer for most rational ones or they don’t have s*** else to do with their life. Or they’re just a thoroughbred sly cooper
I get the ACAB stance but if niggas ain’t finna ever stop typing hashtags and violently overthrow this s*** then we need niggas who still willing to go on those front lines thinking they can do good honestly white or black.

yes
Let's ask Rick Ross.
Nah but, on a serious note, it actually makes tons of sense. Black cops will generally have more sympathy towards inner city Black people than White cops and can spark positive changes in law enforcement.
Black cops will also be more likely to live in the same community while interacting with many of the same people on a daily basis.
Black cops can also influence non-Black cops to back away from racial profiling methods and use better measures to handle crime.
There's many reasons.
If black cops think this is true then they don't understand how white supremacy works.

as someone that was in the military the possibility of anyone other military police/security forces being called in to be boots on the ground and go killing people is slim to none. otherwise the only other way is if you get deployed and have to go outside the wire which I'm p sure isn't that common either unless you're in select jobs
just like how we all sign up for the draft but know that s*** isn't happening
Because 1. It’s an occupation with amazing benefits 2. Wanting to be a positive change in the community. It’s not that complicated tbh

Pretty simple concept. Might be too much for some people to grasp
The same reason a fat person works at McDonalds
Money
Bro what are these comparisons
Bro what are these comparisons
The fat people are around what’s killing them and their people but instead of high cholesterol and fat, it’s racism
when I was a little kid I wanted to be a cop
Then I grew and had experiences with them and was like ew no thanks

Yo this is stupid
Reminds of a Patrice O'Neal joke where he said something like 'we should hide donuts in stores for health & safety reasons. 'Ay this stuff is killing me, why is it allowed on display?' '

Ngl I be thinking this too
To become a part of a system that holds us down and set a better example
To see change sometimes you have to be the change
To police their community, perhaps they grew up in an environment where criminals hurt their loved ones
Grew up in a police family
