    Are we in agreement that

    If Pop = Thriller

    & Rap = illmatic
    (Honorable Mention: MBDTF)

    I don't really know the other genres like that.

    Help me out.

    We can even do Sub genres

    Doggystyle/The Chronic/Graduation for rap probably

    rap is too broad a genre to have one album define it

    you’d have to break it down into its subgenres

    NOTE: Some of these are not my favorite in the genre but

    Pop = Thriller
    Rap = Illmatic
    R&B = What's Going On
    Soul = Innervisions
    Rock = Sgt Pepper
    Metal = Master of Puppets

    MBDTF not a good pick for THE rap album because it doesn't really sound like any other rap album I feel like it has to be more representative of the genre

    Rock would probably be Dark Side of the Moon, R&B would be Voodoo or Aaliyah. But I don't listen to enough R&B really tbh

    these are all old as f*** which kinda defeats the purpose

    that’s my point, culture keeps evolving, what captured the zeitgeist 50 years ago shouldn’t be held up as the same thing that captures it now

    To be fair, these are the albums that are still revered and name as the genre's best

    Psychedelic/Prog rock for DSOTM
    Neo Soul for Voodoo and Aaliyah

    eh i feel like MBDTF has a strong case and i’m not even the biggest fan of that album. but it covers pretty much every base (Pop Rap, Underground, Mainstream, Experimental)
