If you wanna read some bios/memoirs, checkout Chronicle by Bob Dylan and Life by Keith Richards. Very interesting reads.

author spends a whole chapter just s***ting on Yeezus which kinda makes me wanna not read it still have it lying around tho
Quality really varies from book to book, they're all by different authors...
I enjoyed the one I've read about the Twin Peaks soundtrack though and the one about Trout Mask Replica was great

F*** really? Never read it myself so I didn’t know that. Trout Mask Replica definitely sounds like an interesting album to be book worthy. Ik Beefheart was a pretty abusive guy and treated his band like s***, but never got into detail with it.

Positively 4th Street: The Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Fariña, and Richard Fariña
the best I've read yet. Really evokes an era and how folk (a genre I hadn't particularly cared for b4) really changed music massively in the late 50s/60s. The Farina/Dylan friendship/rivalry makes it really fun to read and the author is real for illuminating the kinda underplayed female side of the story too

As Serious As Your Life: Black Music and the Free Jazz Revolution, 1957–1977
In this classic account of the new black music of the 1960s and 70s, celebrated photographer and jazz historian Val Wilmer tells the story of how a generation of revolutionary musicians established black music as the true vanguard of American culture. Placing the achievements of African-American artists such as Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Sun Ra in their broader political and social context, Wilmer evokes an era of extraordinary innovation and experimentation that continues to inspire musicians today. As vital now as when it was first published in 1977, As Serious As Your Life is the essential story of one of the most dynamic musical movements of the twentieth century.
