easily one of the most influential albums to come out that decade for sure

i'd say Turn on the Bright Lights too. it definitely laid the groundwork for The Killers' discography, especially the debut

it also feels like it kinda encapsulates the way rock essentially just became "indie" even after the style(s) became more mainstream and essentially lost the original meaning. in early 00s there were still obviously non-indie huge rock bands but i think as the decade ended those faded out and in the 2010s and now the good rock mostly falls under the indie umbrella or alternative at the very least

Is This It doesn't really sound anti-mainstream and it's also pure rock enough to be a good broad answer even though there are indie rock albums I enjoy more. its the sound of pure unadulterated rock for the new century, calling back to the past as well as into the future

100% Funeral as much as I dislike Win Butler's contributions to it and the album's mixing.

Arcade Fire's rise is also more true to the expectations of purists compared to the Strokes for sure.
