In a world where not reading something is as simple as continuing to scroll, what's the point in locking threads a lot of time?

'Thread has run it's course' what does that statement even mean? If people are still willing to talk, and people are still willing to respond how has something run it's course? What does locking a thread do to help anything? Nobody comes through your conversation in person and push you niggas away from each other to stop the conversation 😑

If I was to guess, it's to show that the mods actually do their job and shut down hate speech type stuff, if it was shown that stuff like that didn't result in mod/admin action and it could just flourish, advertisers wouldn't be as eager to associate their brands with the site, and it could end up running out of money

And they'll lock threads knowing that a new thread on the same topic is bound to pop right back up because there was still more to discuss. Honestly think they just pick when to flex mod power on a whim

I don't doubt it. I was just thinking about it, especially since my thread discussing suicide was locked without reason, and I just don't get it. If people want to talk about something how you gonna tell them niggas the discussion has ran it's course and they can't talk about it no more?

Swear it's become more of a problem on this new site than the old one. But yeah I agree that's a prime of example of when it's dumb asf to lock something. Locking hate speech is more understandable, but 90% of locks aren't locked for hate speech

And the thread was actually discourse. But yeah no posting about my fridge laying down waaaaay more valuable discussion.

i feel you there. i’ve also been diagnosed with depression & anxiety (been on/off zoloft and various anti anxiety meds) and completely agree that the chemical imbalance makes it feel like it doesn’t allow you to heal / get better sometimes.

but i’ve found that anytime i’ve been in a really dark place, even if it didn’t get better, after a few days / weeks, it wasn’t as bad to the point where i wanted to do something like that anymore.

it may come in waves and may be hard to deal with, but the fact that it subsides somewhat is proof enough (for me) it’s never worth it to end things over emotions/depression

you alive as a person is worth it to more people than you may realize, so even if you are feeling worthless, someone out there either currently or eventually will see your value

i do understand everyone deals with, has different levels of, and feels differently about depression, but that’s just my view

i know the feelings that come with depression are very real and very damaging, so i’m not simply saying “they are just feelings you’ll get over it”, i’m saying they are very valid feelings, and they will affect you to varying degrees, but the fight through it is always worth it (imo)
