cap, people have definitely done it
yeah that s*** is totally inaccurate lmao
Those are pretty much the only careers that you need a degree for
If you want to be a film maker like me you dont need a film degree or an education in film
You can study film theory independently and PA on sets to make connections
ehhh, you're right and wrong.
It's not "one perfect way" to go about becoming a film maker or any art within the medium. Spike Lee went to grad school at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts so you can't just act like people that go the school route just won't be sucessful.
THIS mentality imo is the most damaging thing that the Kanye West story has left on youth.
To call an education in those areas worthless tho?
Like we can talk about how they don't lead into profitable jobs, but that does not take away from the worthiness of an education regardless.
Obviously no amount of knowledge is worthless but theyre worthless in terms of employability which is pretty much what American college is about
yeah that s*** is totally inaccurate lmao
I got family in recruiting in Google and Microsoft and are NOT taking people without degrees unless you’re literally a prodigy
Obviously startups who are desperate for whatever labor they can find will pull you on board but firms with years of presence will only take the cream of the crop
psychology is stem and has tons of applications lmao thats why thats the default major for people
psych is popular for sure but the "default" definitely has to be business
Yeah things such as art related subjects I don't think you need to go to school for neccesarily but it's probably easier to make connections in the industry by going to college
Exceptions make the rule
idk what to tell u, if you want to find examples go on linkedin or something
if your projects are impressive enough you will get attention, it just take either a lot of natural skill or discipline to do it without a degree

ya bro those are also like two of the most prestigious/competitive tech companies
the money aspect is bullshit ofc but i dont think the only valid purpose of education is future employment
And Law Schools dont even care what undergrad degree you have
So if you wanna be a lawyer half the battle is figuring out what to fall back on if law school doesnt work out
ok i agree college is a scam but those aren’t the only degrees that mean anything
i graduated with a communications degree which everyone said was worthless
i make 60k a year and im interviewing with a six figure job rn at 23, these aren’t amazing numbers but they validate the money i spent because im almost done paying off my loans
it’s fundamentally about work ethic—the piece of paper is a key to a door that you’re kinda forced to obtain if you want an office job
ya bro those are also like two of the most prestigious/competitive tech companies
he isn't even right about that it completely depends on what you've made lol

Anyway my real take on why college tuition has increased dramatically (this is not speaking on the specific degrees you are speaking on, just the cost in general) is that the military saw a dramatic decrease in enlistment after the vietnam war. They saw an opportunity to press people to go to college but make it so unaffordable so that a sizeable handful of people would look at the GI Bill and go "this is my only way to get educated".
americas education system is largely just gatekeeping at some points
Anyways i don't think college is useless because i do think it's still important to be educated in a wide array of topics
Which is why college tuiition needs to be lowered substantially

This.
It's turned the arts entirely into a cool kid's club where if you dont got mommy daddy money or those type of connections without having to do the ultra groundwork it'll make s*** that much harder for you whether you a college graduate or not a college graduate.
@RVI you right.
College education definitely aint just about future employment. The life skills you learn there do stick with you for a lifetime.
I've heard people complaining about Martin Scorsese not paying taxes as a millionaire artsy fartsy guy. He went to NYU iirc.
He seemed to be doing something right to become a millionaire playing with stupid lenses, focal lengths, lights bulbs and dress up adults.

a lot of famous artists went to college lol.
It's just cause this is a Kanye site people (not specifically talking about op) think oh f*** college then lmfao.
No degree is worthless. Some schools shouldn't teach certain areas. There should be Community Colleges specifically dedicated towards the arts.
I think the courses should be there, you can learn a lot of valuable information and also collaboration in your chosen field. There just needs to be more emphasis on career pathways within courses (internships, work experience), maybe smaller class numbers where theres a process in getting selected. I was also thinking surely they can streamline courses more, theres so much free time in uni surely they can add more classes through the week etc. and take a year off a course. Just seems like an overall bloated system
