u on a forum that starts with the first name of a billionaire artist
And his debut album was called "The College Dropout"
And his debut album was called "The College Dropout"
Without a college to drop out of we would never have had Kanye
Its f***ed up because those worthless degrees have like 1 nice paying job for every 200 people so yeah many of them end up in some random lower management position (or other field) simply because they graduated from college.
And then those STEM majors arent for everyone.
But then you have the issue of society turning into a meritocracy (which it kinda already is tbh).
What they need to look into is how much money and time it really takes to learn relevant, and applicable skills that will more than adequately get the job done for a respective career path.
i still haven’t decided what to do for college and it makes me not wanna be on earth fr
Supply Chain Management
Anything Business or STEM related.
I know the answer is "money" but let's go deeper than that.
how the f*** is this s*** legal? Schools and counselors and etc feed you this "follow your dream" mantra until you get to college and realize that following your dreams will get you a job at Target after Graduating.
For example someone wants to be a writer theyll end up going to college for writing or English, only to realize that careers in that field are worth less than dogshit and the degrees are worth even less than that
What the f*** is the point of having 100s of degrees or majors when the only ones that mean something are Med, CompSci, Engineering, etc. Niggas are indebting themselves just so they can work for Soros or Bezos?
Im not tryna say college is a scam but come on its shady as f*** that if you dont peep game you just end up with an expensive piece of paper and crippling debilitating debt
if you major in something that has a direct career path it is a lot easier generally
If you study accounting you can be an accountant
if you study C/S you can be a developer, programmer etc
The problem is art degrees don't have a clear path to a job right after you graduate and many of them require masters/PhD to unlock their full value. If you are okay with this or are willing to grind hard for internships then it's cool.
People should really go into trades. We are going to have a lot of trades people retiring and tons of jobs available. It's hard work but good money
even CS degrees are more about the connections you make on the way than the material learned. anyone can do a free CS program and with enough work and projects to show for can land a job. some degrees aid the process. thats why degrees with no experiential or co-op component are pretty iffy
Why not question the way we look at education as only a means to be able to land a job?
High Schools nation wide are doing a disservice to millions of teenagers every year.
Schools do not teach enough real world knowledge like financial education to assist teens with making choices that will affect them decades down the line. The fact that high school counselors are constantly pushing college and getting a degree and are not helping to show other options, the pros and cons, etc is a joke. Kids should have to do classes to learn a trade skill, learn financial planning and about debt, credit cards and credit building, and more if they are going to ne forced to make a major life decision at 18 years old with only a year or two to make that decision.
I feel like that's mostly an issue in countries where going to college will put you in debt, because if u don't have to sell your kidney s*** is pretty cool
you could also say you dont need a degree for a CS career
just self-teach and do projects
To a hiring manager this probably the golden candidate, but HR blocking that chance with the swiftness. S*** whack tbh, but its the game.
its because having the credential of a college degree (major often irrelevant) is now essentially mandatory for professional class jobs, and universities are basically a cartel who control the means of disseminating the credentials, so people have to in-debt themselves to access the credential
And because it's essentially understood the piece of paper is ultimately the important thing from the experience ppl are induced to think "sure why not go into debt for an anthropology degree all i need to do is finish and ill get a goodjob"
which is idiotic but if you wnat an email job and arent STEM brained its really the only way
Because the main goal of college is to socialize, network, make connections, meet friends, meet potential wife/husband, set yourself up for the future, and provide a smooth transition from childhood to adulthood
Also because some jobs just require any college degree and many “worthless” degrees actually do pipeline to certain jobs
Also because the main goal of college should be to learn, think, and expand your intellectual horizons… some people are interested in these subjects and aren’t too worried about money
Issa scam. And it’s f***ed up. But yeah. Most art lanes or anything that correlates you don’t even need a degree to get on. Same thing with like writing. Psychology is probably the only one where you aren’t going to get in specific fields without having the degree but even then you really have to go to grad school to get value out of psych. :jordancry:
Why not question the way we look at education as only a means to be able to land a job?
An education’s value is so much more than how fast you can secure a high paying job after graduating.
The value of a STEM education is pretty clear and obvious from a strictly salary based perspective, but the starting pay at your first job doesn’t define a person’s overall quality of life.
The is just as much value in fields that focus on arts, culture, and emotions. Being able to understand less rigid concepts and having an ability to navigate the world’s social landscape is also a very important skill, but is often neglected and unrecognized.
Having a less rigid skill set can lead to more/different opportunities in a persons career and can benefit one’s personal and social life.
not anymore
ok sure
anyway i dont know if i’d call offering courses in the arts ‘worthless’ just because its tech that has all the money in the jobs market. that’s not really in the schools’ control.
Thats not at all what I said
And even then you dont need an art degree to be an artist
art schools fine in theory but they jack up the price so high for the top schools that its not worth it for ppl who arent already connected to the industry
FIT is the only top tier art school i can think of thats affordable
i guess UCLA too
The problem is that corporations can't exploit the labor of the people who pursued those degrees, not the degrees themselves.
ehhh, you're right and wrong.
It's not "one perfect way" to go about becoming a film maker or any art within the medium. Spike Lee went to grad school at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts so you can't just act like people that go the school route just won't be sucessful.
THIS mentality imo is the most damaging thing that the Kanye West story has left on youth.
kanye knew No ID from childhood and without that he wouldnt be where he is
ppl forget that part
just going off my experience, what field u work in?
ktt data collector
