try playing a piano without any knowledge of scales and tell me how that sounds

try becoming a superstar with an iphone microphone

tyler talks about harmonies and chords all the time, you think he's just doing s*** randomly? there's methods to cherry bomb and aesthetic choices in the mixing

    same with the lo-fi sound

    8 years trained dog lol.

"try becoming a superstar with an iphone microphone"
"try playing piano without any knowledge of scales"

Fam you brought up Tyler who is living proof of both of these. Wasn't b****** vocals recorded with garage band?

He aint start getting good at harmonies and chords til midway his career. Nigga the common music theory critique for years when he was coming up was he kept playing the same chord progressions on his beats.

And music can still sound dynamic even when the wave is bricked out like that, you just have to know what you're doing.

what’s causing them to be bricked out like that?

    you're being f***ing obtuse

obviously different moods require different mixing and so on

tyler had loud obnoxious music so the mixing fit his garage punk like style

navy blue is specifically doing lo-fi s*** because that's the aesthetic

meanwhile if travis scott tries this on a glossy record it becomes goofy unless the goal is specifically to make the sound jarringly harsh

people couldn't listen to st. anger because it sounded so awfully mixed

people like kendrick let their albums be mixed forever so every sound hits, you're really thinking all this s*** happens by accident

that youtube "lo-fi hip hop to study" video has ruined the definition and discussion around that word so much lmfao.

I said B******, not Cherry Bomb. What garage punk style was on there.

The way yall gas him on here, Travis could legit do that on a single right now and it would be a hit on ktt2. I'm telling you as long as you like the artist, it don't matter how badly mixed it is. (unless it's entirely unlistenable, which is a completely different story)

garage punk was a metaphor for his amateurish, rebellious style as he was coming onto the scene and making a splash with all the controversy and horrorcore s***

you're incapable of thinking in terms other than the literal so i'm done discussing with your dumb ass

Compression and an more extreme compression called limiting. But you can compress and limit your s*** a certain way that it doesn't sound as squashed as it looks

I mean that's cool bro. you the one that said this

"try playing a piano without any knowledge of scales and tell me how that sounds "

try becoming a superstar with an iphone microphone"

and brought up literally an artist that became a superstar doing just that. have a good day bro.

I mean isn’t complaining about the mix of MBDTF a staple on this site? Seems like it’s a bad thing for some

  • May 4, 2021

4 Your Eyez Only is one of the worst mixed albums I ever heard

  • May 4, 2021

I don’t want everything to sound clean and polished

Distortion is a texture and I like it

Some of that “clean” s*** sound flat and boring to me. If I can get a clear understanding of the artistic direction and if the mix fits that then I’m good

  • Also there is such a thing as being “too mixed/clean.”

It’s literally the reason niggas aint f*** with Oxnard as much as they did with Malibu.

I mean I get the idea that people didn't like the way it was mixed/mastered... but the idea that mixing should follow a single lane in order to please not the artist but the listener is very weird. For instance it's very well documented that Kanye listens to his music super EXTRA loud during studio sessions. Doesn't it seems logical that MBDTF's mix follows the same trend ? Isn't the whole thing about diving into what Kanye had in mind ?

I remember reading the exact same thing about Astroworld and people being pissed 'cause Travis wanted the whole thing to be mixed in a particular way. As long as an album mix isn't what it is out of laziness I'm personally down to hear everything if this is what the artist wants me to go through
