  • Something I have always debated is "did last of us 2 need to happen " especially with Ellie and Joel as focus. To me the ending of 1 more potent but I am curious

1 easily, while 2 had the better beginning

    hmm

1 had the bigger "wow" factor for me. The game just ended with my jaw dropped at what happened

but 2 had be sobbing like a baby, most emotional ending to a game ive ever played. that final scene with joel absolutely wrecked me knowing they finally got on good terms the day before he died

honestly they are close. but if i had to choose just one? Probably 1 cause wow that ending was just cold. Honestly was perfect

Lol I can't help but get the feeling 2 didnt need to exist and in many ways was fan service. Yes I get the theme of cycles of venegance but I got that from game 1 when joel tortured and killed a doctor. Us as the player being forced to do it.. I still viewed joel as a villain

I guess the uncertainty of would we ever see them again in Last of Us 1 and ending with a lie so he could have a daughter and not lose a daughter again was just so potent to me. Would she ever figure out "likely" but same way as the ending of Leftovers without spoiling did the audience need to see it play out? When the other result is Ellies death and her being an "alleged" cure

I agree 2 did not NEED to exist.

BUT im glad it does because to me 2 is better in almost every single way.

1 had the perfect mic drop ending. It was a perfect way to tie a bow on a heart wrenching story like that

But part 2 when you realize Ellie lost her last connection to Joel because she can no longer play guitar due to her missing fingers, its a giant punch in the chest. And the fact she just leaves the guitar behind and just walks off.....FUCK

    Yea im choosing Part 2

And then you think about the fact that in part 1 Ellie said her biggest fear is ending up alone....and Ellie returns to an empty home at the end of Part 2

Just interesting to see both sides. I still need to actually play 2. Currently don't have a console but when I beat 1 I remember saying I hope they dont do a sequel because its a perfect ending.

Yes being consumed by vengeance major theme I just wonder if its as potent when you kind of knew her chasing of abby would either end in her death or her abandoning her family for revenge when abby reason for killing Joel is beyond valid

O man you haven't played it yet? The gameplay is vastly better, the combat might be my favorite in any game ever

But yea part 1 has a perfect ending no question.
But im very happy we got the sequel , I love living in TLOU universe so it was amazing to be back in that world 5 years later

Definitely going to play when I eventually get a PS5 again. I worried it was fan service but seems like it paid off

I wish they had known they were going to do a sequel originally cause killing the leader of the fireflys was such an odd decision

But from Ellie's viewpoint, she thought killing Abby would bring her closure and fill that void inside of her.
She already lost her purpose in life after finding out Joel killed the one doctor who could extract a cure from her. So in a sense Abby gave her a new purpose to keep living

But when you realize that whether Ellie killed Abby or not...nothing would bring Joel back. And Ellie would feel no happier or more fulfilled no matter what she did to Abby. And to see her lose that very last connection...that connection to Joel...the one thing she had left...Joel's guitar. you realize Ellie has truly hit the lowest point she could ever reach and there is no turning back

So yea it still hits hard AF for me

Part 2 is the complete opposite of fan service

Fan service would be if Part 2 was just 'Joel and Ellie's Adventures Part 2'

she was a well developed character and the only real reason I paid attention or cared about the fireflies or two sides like that . The politics of the two sides but she helped ground them some I guess. I just watched a story summary cause was discussing with friend but both games and at least one definitely had more human to human combat and human conflicts than you would wind up expecting akin to like 28 Days Later but different I guess.

But killing her gives a giant amount of weight to what Joel did.
He absolutely f***ed over the future of humanity. He ended the Fireflies and ruined any chance of a cure all in a span of 10 minutes .
And it was all because Joel couldn't bear to lose Elilie

That moment wouldn't feel nearly as powerful unless we saw how far a man is willing to go to protect the one he loves and because of his fear of being alone.
Plus Marlene would've tried hunting Joel down if he didn't pop her

I guess I would need to see what stops Ellie from making the same sacrifice this game or how progress goes in saving humanity this game. Cause it makes no sense that he sacrificed humanity to save ellie only to risk losing her forever to a lie then eventually die. Like yes its poetic and cute but sacrificing all of humanity for a few more days with someone just selfish

    tlou2 ending was too melodramatic
edit: and Ellie should have gotten the better set pieces.

  • Oct 7, 2021

saw someone say 1 ends with happiness with misery underneath

and 2 ends with misery but happiness underneath

i dont know which one i prefer tbh
