  • Movies are like ~2 hours long and have closure and people have so many notes and opinions after.

TV feels like sports or something. What happens this week? What happens next? Okay, wait for next season.

Eventually viewers do pass some judgement at the end but it's rarely scathing. You just spent tens of hours watching. You're either on board or gave up.

Because a movie is a complete body of work, ongoing shows aren’t

This like asking why are people more critical of albums than singles

TV is often a "good enough" or a "didn't finish"

And a lot of big movies have borrowed from shows and become parts of stories. Dune was in two parts for instance. Fast X just ended on a cliffhanger that hasn't been around on TV since the 60s.

tv is an unserious medium and we know that going in

  • because television is an inferior medium and on a subconscious level people sort of roll with it. we're very far removed from the golden era of "prestige tv" at this point.

The Boys is the rare show to command that audience/spotlight, yea. GOT obviously did as well. Both towards the end in their run as well.

Lots of big shows, bigger shows even, never get that discourse.

Ask a normal person what they're watching. You'd be surprised. There's a lot of TV that a lot of people watch that we don't talk or think about at all. Apple TV shows in general are like that.

I don’t agree with this at all. I’ve seen plenty of shows receive heavy amounts of criticism.

But I think it’s true that movies are more respected as a “serious” artform

A normal person isn’t watching Apple TV shows though.

A normal person is watching Chicago med or Chicago PD or Chicago fire

You are aware that Netflix makes all this s*** up.

And also zero shows on that list are shows that give real life discourse. All binges

Streamers all do that. It's all relative.
