Was just thinking about this recently. Like when I hear something negative about an artist I have no relationship with it just goes in one ear and out the other. Is it just like a celebrity culture obsession? is it some other weirdo s***, that i don't have the experience to articulate properly?
idk but i'm just wondering what yalls take on it is
Taylor swift incident brought him a lot of hate from White America who never really heard his music and gave him that "asshole" persona. And through the years he only made it worse to the point. It feels like he public enemy #1, where people don't want to see him do well in a sense
Don't know, because there are definitely celebrities way worse than Kanye that get way less flack, and Ye typically does have good intentions (aside from the Pete stuff).
I think people just aren't used to someone so brazen and with no filter, but the mental gymnastics people use to construct some narrative that he's the scum of the Earth is fascinating
Because its clear his sense of self worth and the way he operates is in no way tied to established societal(ie white) values. That comes off as extremely arrogant and frightening to those who are threatened by what he represents: a mentally, spiritually, and financially liberated black man.

one time, someone made fun of me for liking ye and told me 10 min later that they still listen to r.kelly and i'm like yo i don't want to be a cop but i think r.kelly is probably a worse person than ye

this is real i love this
I see people go alllllll the way out the way to hate on him
There are definitely people who hate who they see in the mirror and take it out on Kanye because he exudes confidence and has a platform

that could honestly be it
only insecure people are threatened by others security
he reminds them of what they could of been or he reminds them of someone who was cooler than them or bullied them in high school.
Or they are just flat out passively aggressively racist and like to project their hateful energy towards a black billionaire
Literally tho. When I hear some gossip about another artist, i do not give a f***. Matter of fact I can’t even name an example. In one ear out the other. For Kanye i care cuz I’m a huge fan. But why do non fans even entertain these thoughts taking up space in their day???

Literally all of the above. Or a lot of times it reminds them of someone they thought was weird in high school but then went on to do great s*** and they’re bitter bout it

it’s genuinely beyond me
Lot of em old Kanye fans turned sour bc of 2018 MAGA era
But also a lot of them, most of em even, just mad bc Kanye isn't shy exactly about how great of an artist he is, because he's not afraid to take public stances that may be unpopular etc
Kanye is the most wealthy and most influential Black person in America. They burned down Black Wall Street just 100 years ago, so it isn’t too surprising.
They see him as a threat because he is a Black man who refuses to be bound to the rules of white American society or to be placed into a box. He is insanely talented and he knows it and isn’t afraid to say that he knows it. He loudly and arrogantly breaks all of the rules that they try to place on him and achieves unimaginable success in spite of this. Actually, he reaches higher heights the more he refuses to conform. That’s why they see him as a threat.
The world needs someone taboo to collectively hate on and he’s just that guy right now and has been off and on for years. He brings it on himself a lot of the time but it’s just what he loves honestly. Literally if people didn’t care, they wouldn’t voice an opinion on it.
Because since 09 it has become a social norm to hate on Kanye.
Been the longest running trend.
I remember back in 2017
I was talking to a coworker
About Kanye and his music.
Man's called him a genius.
But said his music hasn't been good in years.
And I'm like...
What was the last album you heard by him?
Man's said he hasn't listened to Kanye since 808s and low-key hates him cuz of the Taylor swift s***.
Surprise!!
The coworker is white
