  • Look i'm not making this thread to just hate. But i've been relistening to his albums today, and I realized none of the beats HIT the way they should. The bass always sounds too quiet or off. Hell. I'm convinced 4YEO wasn't even mastered properly with how quiet it is.

    What do ya'll think?

I kinda get what you mean but I think its so that his rapping his at the forefront and not the beats. He has alot of songs that knock though

Cole is more of a DIY type rapper than most.

He doesn't have a team of writers like Drake or a team of engineers like Kanye and his production is above average but rarely innovative or mindblowing.

Basically, Cole is decent and has a great run but he plays things safe to not alienate his core fans too much. I like how Cole doesn't "sell out" as much as others on one hand when it comes to his sound but, on the other hand, if you're not a Cole stan, certain s*** just won't resonate.

It must be the way he likes his music mixed. I think it’s the same guy that usually does it.

I kinda get what you mean tho. “A Lot” sounds way more crisp than most beats he raps on.

  • He is a lil boring sometimes

i'm not even critiquing the songs on a creative level, just technically.

Like KOD does NOT hit the way it should at all. Its supposed to be this "trap" album inspired by the Soundcloud rap scene, but it just ends up sounding like any other Cole album with its mix.

I can't listen to Cole for this reason, he's so boring, has no swag or charisma.

Yes if I want some cool wordplay then a few songs might do it, but other than that....

I've tried too guys, I really have.

Him and Drake both have pretty flat sounding tracks tbh.

I assume it's because then it'll always sound solid no matter how it's played

Nah. Drake's sound from 2011-2015 still sounds fresh.

I wouldn't say Drake sounds flat recently. Knife Talk and No Friends In The Industry are really full of energy they're in my work out playlist. The production on Fair Trade, Love All, TSU all sound fresh. CLB has some higher moments of Drake's career just give it time until everyone else realizes

Blame his mixing, he tells his engineer to do it in a way that makes it sound like that. Look at his beats (hurt feelings, hiipower) he gives other people where it's mixed by others
