idc about mach hommy but genius is a f***ing horrible site and i wouldnt let my stuff on there either
Genius makes sense and more artists should probably do it.
They don't pay these artists while using their literal words. It's another example of hip hop being devalued.
Plus, genius f***s up a lot more lyrics than they get right. It's also a better fulfilling experience when you personally listen and get what you want out of it.
I miss the days where the CD liner notes had the lyrics from the artists themselves.
This man sold an album on Bandcamp for $1000 just to listen why tf would he miss a bag selling the lyric publishing

most vinyl's still ahve them booklets
Imagine if Drake decided to hit em with a DMCA, they'd drop a bag in a second
i hope he never does thats so unnecessary
Mach, Roc, and Nipsey got killed for doing s*** that in retrospect was a smart move.
Now, I don't agree with selling an album for a whole rack, personally speaking. I think the value in music comes from the quantity of people buying the art (compared to...literal art). But people should be adding incentives. like imagine if every big artist started putting they albums out for a week on bandcamp or a service that was non streaming. :word:

i personally don’t have an issue with transcribed lyrics or official annotations
the issue comes from when user annotations totally subvert main artists’ intentions by using interpretation
Like i get if there’s references to things that actually happened or it explains a punchline but otherwise it’s weird

I think the rumor was people were giving out links to his catalog in the comments
So he had DMCA strike it down

dont need to read his lyrics to know hes trash
What’s your reason for calling him trash

I have no issues with an artist naming their price if it's DIY. Someone will buy it if they can afford it. Jean Christophe Grandin bought every Mach album as it dropped. Dude a legend for that. Roc's $20-30 dollar price tag was very reasonable. And he always dropped a couple weeks later on Spotify
It worked for Mach heavily in his favor. That price tag, plus the fact that his music was being bootlegged + people had no access to him via social media only made people want to hear more about him.
His stuff was $187 on bandcamp at first. Then went up to the reasonable price of $777

they don't f*** up more lyrics than they get right. i could see an argument for paying artists. but i could also see an argument for not. magazines don't pay artists for interviews and those use the artists' actual words. people looking up lyrics probably helps artists on the whole
