As technology continues to progress and the inherent nature of the main forms of work/primary occupations people take become more complex — will a larger number of unemployed and ‘lower class’ people be the inevitable result? I’m not disparaging people here and saying they’re worth less but not everyone is capable of doing highly a***ytical work and who knows how condensed the output versus required skilled labor ratio becomes.
The average innate human capability/intelligence of the general population may not grow and evolve at the same rate of tech/growth of complexity in jobs ‘overseeing’ the automation processes.
What will be the dynamic as a greater percentage of the population isn’t capable of doing the work society/progress deems to be worth it?
Regardless of whatever economic system you choose, what will be the roles these large number of individuals take in a new society where they aren’t able to meet the demands of more tech/mentally demanding jobs that become the primary form of labor?
Will our technological progress and implementation be capped by our lowest level of skilled workers available or will we push forward and disregard the people left behind? What are the alternatives here?
Re: your final paragraph, there is no alternative but global collapse.
I think we might be headed to a ruling class of technocrats
neotechno-feudalism basically what's happening rn its interesting to watch as a modern day serf

Idk I’d make that jump yet but when I see my friends in tech pulling 160k as a starting salary at 22 — yeah I think it’s not drastic what you’re saying here
It’s clear whose gaining influence and control
It seems like it should be able to but the problem is technology won’t suddenly be used in a way that benefits social good. Hell, we have the technology logistics wise to help a lot of people now but profit takes precedence

Just FYI that’s an exceptional starting salary even in tech lol

Really? My friends at the table were saying they get paid more than that and the salary of the one friend (Bloomberg) was lower than what others got offered
It blew my mind cause I thought 110k-120 was the standard for big companies
Don’t mind me I’m just bored with my f***ed up knee
How’s it going bruh? Hope you’re healing alright

Assuming you’re in the Bay Area? I mean it’s not unheard of but pretty much only gonna get paid like that at somewhere like google, fb, etc

And even then, the cost of living in the Bay causes that salary not to go as far as it could elsewhere

Better, just resting
