  • Went sober for 90 days at the beginning of the year and then drank one night, ended up binge drinking — then went another 30 days sober and two night ago went hard. Anyone have any experience switching from being a problem / binge drinker to learning how to drink moderately? Feels like every time I drink I have to drink like an idiot.

  • If you find out let me know

  • No I have not and once I got over the social fomo I’ve realized it’s so much more goated to simple not drink

You can! But you have to solve the underlying cause of why you were a problem drinker first. If the problem you were trying to self medicate for isnt resolved, you’ll probably continue to do that.

  • I guess I drank a lot more in college than now, but it wasn’t necessarily a problem then. Just when I was out with the homies, so the weekends and the occasional weeknight. Average 3 days a week I suppose. Now it’s once a week for the most part

  • I do not drink because of my grandma and grandpa.

Yes, but it was due to super specific things from mental health/medications/therapy to living with SUPER severe alcoholics and addicts for years. I was never a big binge drinker though, just high amount of intake in the past. the worse ones I saw basically lived on liquor, which I usually avoided for the most part

Probably just better for anyone to just quit tbf but I love my craft beer still

  • I only had a problem with alcohol when I would get drunk everyday for like a month but I wasn’t able to be completely addicted to it

I don’t really get tempted to drink I’m weird with it, I barely had a drink in 5 weeks

Yes but I go discipline / habit kinda.
Like I get 4 days off each week. So I started just buying two beers for my days off
A friend of mine just gave me like 20 beers on my vacation tho and it’s MUCH harder when I have a supply on hand

  • I have the same problem OP I can go months without drinking. I’m a social drinker I rarely ever drink when I’m just chilling at home cause I’m doing other things that keep me busy but when I do go out with friends I’m terrible at moderation and go too hard

    Yes, just get a job

The more i work the more i drink

  • Well, I definitely have a big alcohol problem myself. while I dont get knocked out drunk or anything, I do drink way too much. Its difficult for me to drink one day and then not the other day. The only thing that works for me is quitting cold turkey. But I have an addictive personality, I was addicted to tabacco and weed too. had to quit tabacco cold turkey. weed gradually

  • Yes I used to be a problem drinker. I’d kill a 750 of jack in a day, almost 2 back in my hay days. It wasn’t too hard to quit since I dislike the taste of alcohol and the heart burn but it wasn’t easy either from the withdrawals. Also I don’t think drinking every now and then isn’t bad either, just moderate yourself and set a limit. It’s just personally not for me. It just makes me think about certain situations of my past, although I do drink very very rarely on special occasions but just to be social. I just drink a lot of water

  • Yea

  • I used to drink half a bottle of 750 liqour a day

This year I drake liqour once

  • yeah, I managed to get it under control. its possible but obviously if you have a problem you should avoid drinking as much as you can.

Stop having alcohol at your house @op

  • Alcohol is whack tbh. If anything just a couple straight shots in social settings. Maybe a high noon at the pool or beach or something

Just makes you fat and lethargic

    this

  • I think you need a longer break, about a half year.
In the break time you need to go to therapy and work on the underlying issues that makes you binge drink.

You can’t work on the while you drink because when they creep up on you, you can just drink to get away from them.

Anyway.. that is what help me being able to not smoke weed everyday
