info - Askari x is known as one of the early bay pioneers along with Paris, the coup, he holds a special place in hip hop for this type of representation even though his catalog is very slim in project titles.

He started out In.a trio called R.b.g Righteous Black Guerrillas in 1991. This would provide the experience for him to release his solo album "ward of the state"

Askari was incarcerated before he released his 2nd album. this type of life led him to write a classic like "Ward of the State" & others. He considered Prison to be "Hidden University" He maintained his innocence of robbing a bank, he had 7 witnesses that testified he was innocent. But that did not deter his trial for convicting him.

HIs teachings are based around Uhuru movement, Nation of Islam,African People's socialist party. You will hear a lot of that in this music.

this particular project is musically interesting it's got.a lot wah wah guitars and electric bass in the music. its produced mostly by gruvelyne/whoride

The bassist "John jubu smith" is known for being guitarist in Tony Toni tone. he also worked with a lot of r&b-soul artists of 90's.

Message to a black man is sociopolitical album and it makes perfect sense its from Oakland. Being that this is Black panther central in this town.

Askari x only released 3 albums, later he would be a kind of mentor to dead prez. He got his start in 1991.

how I stumbled on him was on a show they were discussing west coast favorites and his name came up. I was actually surprised how few projects he had..

    lyrically suggested if you like
    Kam
    The Coup
    Paris
    cube
    x clan
    dead prez

    musically if you like -
    suave house
    sik wid it
    get low
    rap a lot
    death row

Nice flows, instrumentation, hooks, melodies, rhythm arrangement, lyrics, energy, programming, production, mixing

oakland has always been slept on. I will definitely be covering more projects. for some reason this acclaimed project Is out of print.

Lots more of artists/groups for west coast Wednesdays otw

included in this drop is the following

Righteous black guerrillas -the Ansars (out of print)
Askari X- Ward of the state
askari x -message to the black man (out of print)
    askari - Ricky Murdock

And yes, this was also the inspiration for Dead prez. askari even co produces volume 2 turn off the radio.

This concludes our edition of West Coast Wednesdays, I hope you like it. yes, there will be more and I have other music drops as well this week. SO there's going to be lots of music to make up for the absence.

    this is awesome
the production and content feels like a more conscious version of the whole G-Funk sound
crazy how this and All Eyez On Me were dropped within days of each other, the flows feel very similar to Pac

not downing him, I really enjoyed both tracks, just an observation
especially the title track, as a guy who has direct African ancestry it feels too real...

not an NOI guy but this guy was truly intent on getting the message out through some dope tracks, wish he got more popular

Nice, look out for more Bay Area work.

I think the comparison is apt for pac. the timeline seems to line up when Askari went in jail & came out.

I think the common denominator is geto Boyz with pac and askari.

In particular scarface and willie d. But yea, I think if you were in jail writing from in the early 90's and you would hear the pac lp's
that came out in that time.

And I dont think it's coincidence they were both based in Oakland.
