Welcome back to another edition of soul Sundays.
Today we have a 2 fer. With the announcement of Beyonce releasing a country related project, RZA's daughter in a country duo
It seems I should drop this for the fam. it isn't streaming on Spotify, tidal or apple. This is a compilation of black artists performing country material. it's a compilation and the following tracklisting?
Also I added Bobby Womack country lp as well, (compilation artwork is from the artwork of the Womack lp, it kinda goes together.
it is interesting to see how Nashville is finally coming to terms with Black artists performing country music.
This is a cool compilation and a good starter into this world. includes mayfield, James Brown, candy staton,
Tracklisting for both comps
and the Womack
If you're new to my drops, this is an example how deep I go to find things I love & share. you get 3 lp's with all included artwork from the original projects.
Little blurb what this s*** is about \
from the label site -
"The DIRTY LAUNDRY anthology is a collection of black approaches to Country music. It not only wants to reveal long forgotten treasures of music history, and shed light on the often neglected Country roots of Soul stars, but put Afro-American Country musicians into a context beyond their genre. The main aim is to question implicit truths. Is there something like white and black music? Aren’t Country and Soul music much closer than their categorization by media, video channels and record companies would suggest? And who would maintain that the songs on this album didn’t have Soul?“
That's just the beginning, I know I've been away from this series but we are BACK. I got Stacks of drops to make up.
More artists, more comp's more everything...

Lmao
Late night thought but....I made a thread previously that was indirectly related to this. Moreso about a "Mary J Blige" moment. Further meaning an artist that was culturally transformative that it redefined the rules on what genre could be. It's great that Nashville is finally accepting of black artists. Hopefully, it helps broaden the visibility but we'll see for now.
I guess the closest and modern interpretation of the Dirty Laundry movement is definitely Southern Soul(Ex. Sir Charles Jones) but that's already a regional oriented/niche thang.
Would love to see a modern artist have a big following another style of Country-Soul. Considering how people view Zach Bryan as Country - Rock fusion, would dope to see a black artist as big as him handle a fusion that feels traditional yet new but due to the political climate that might be a stretch
it’s another nice drop for the fam
someday we will go through a lot of these artists with their own drop
48 songs plus a Bobby womack country project
