imagine if there was mural-esque over every beat though. It could have done some numbers + education
Trying to turn 2001 into a Post-Lasers Lupe album, good grief

the re-up doing old town road numbers
Some of the best rapping of the 90s is on that album though?
Besides, rap, and songwriting in general, never needs literal explicit meaning. So long as you catch the vibe and get the emotion and mindset they are conveying, you’re golden
Hell nah. I know em's verse on forgot about Dre by heart and it wasn't even on purpose
I think Em even wrote the verses for the Watcher but Dre is still rapping his ass off
Crazy underrated song that nobody brings up when talking about this album

lmfao youre an idiot
So, you're saying an album made by a legendary producer has stellar production as the main draw of the album? Wow....you don't say.
But, on a serious note, the rapping was still pretty good on the album. The guests killed most of the beats and Dre with the help of DOC, Jay, and Em sounded good when he rapped too.
It's a West Coast gangster rap album so the "substance" argument is beating a dead horse. It never marketed itself as anything more than that.
But "The Message" had plenty of substance in it.
It literally has the best em verses ever record all over it
I also don't think op listened to the first song, or doesn't know what dre is referring to throughout it
I love it a lot. I just made a thread about it because I'm on some sweet indica
And the album gave us the phrase smoke weed everyday
That's culture
Its hella good verses on it
2001 is a really enjoyable album but I don’t think its like a top 10 rap album or anything like a lot of people

The Message, The Watcher, Whats The Difference, Forgot About Dre, and Big Egos all let you into where Dre was at at the time he was making the album tbh
My controversial opinion is end the album at The Next Episode, BUT put The Message somewhere in the tracklist
First half of 2001 >>> second half, but second half has Bang Bang
