    Theory

I could make $200k in a couple years doing what I’m doing now. Could use it to pay off my house and other debts, and that’d be about it. I could maybe quit my job but I’d have to go back in a few years once new bills came in.

A 50/50 chance at $40 million is pretty attractive. I think I’d take the flip.

You could make $200k in a couple years but do you have $200k liquid? Total?

A yearly salary accumulating $200k is one thing. Anyone can make $40,000 over 5 years but have you ever saved your way to $200,000 ?

People make it sound so easy but more than half of America can’t even afford a $1,000 emergency. With bills are expenses it’s more than likely saving up to $200k won’t happen. I’d take the lump sum every time.

I think people definitely underestimate the # of curveballs life throws in their path when look at a salary & feel like because I'm slated to make X amount of dollars per year that I can eventually save my way to riches. not to dunk on the guy saying it or act like he hasn't accomplished a lot / put himself in position to earn more than many people all over the world, but It rarely plays out so smoothly in practice

Neither. You take the coin that theyre flipping and put that in the stock market, after 13 years youll be a billionaire.

If you take 200k option and put it all in the S&P 500 index and assuming average return of 10%, it will take 17 years to reach 1 million dollars

    Taxes + inflation tho

I’d take the 200k, put 100k in my pocket and the other 100k for investments

    I’ll flip the coin.

200k isn’t that much if you consider it over the years

Nah I don’t have $200k in my account, but I’m also in a position where money hasn’t been a problem in a while and I’ve been able to pay for emergencies and buy out what I want without financing. So I live how I want and can save a decent amount at the same time. $200k would be great, but it wouldn’t be life changing for me. Would just allow me to save money faster.

A 50/50 shot at early retirement though? I think it’s worth the gamble. If it was like a 1/3 chance I’d feel different. But 50/50 is too good lol
