2010s is the wildwest era for digital & the most freeist era of Rap oat so far
It and the 90s are wild that s*** even happened in retrospect & was possible
IMMA PUT COCAINE IN YO ASS
IMMA PUT MY D*** IN YO ASS
The type of s*** that underground rappers was on in the early-mid 2010s just makes me look at this new era of underground rappers with so much disappointment. Hardly anything they're doing is actually new, and it's low effort trash and biting of Young Thug and Future, just with s*** production and an overabundance of annoying VFX.
Even though Busdriver from the 90s/00s, he's definitely a weirdo internet kinda rapper, and this tracks features weirdo/esoteric rap legend milo/R.A.P Ferreria along with Anderson Paak early on in their careers

underground rap keeps getting better and better as it encompasses more voices across the board, especially those of young people who don't have to go through all the gatekeeping and limited access that their peers went through
but I guess you're not talking about folks like pink siifu and moreso people from opium and whatnot

Yeah they don't have to worry about gatekeeping and s*** is more accessible than ever. Unfortunately they ass.

Pink Siifu been around since like 2014 very early in his career and I think he was going by a different name back then but he been in the weirdo lane for a good long minute now

not him in particular, think that entire wave. mavi got his breakthrough in 2018 for example, mike in 2017

I don't really have problems with those dudes, I enjoy them and they're probably some of my favorite newer artists along with Maxo (even though he's another dude who has been around for a minute lowkey) But I will say what they're doing isn't necessarily new/unique either. Lotta sample heavy/DIY dusty jazz-rap kinda vibes with a big focus on stream of conscious lyrics. I dig em a lot but they aren't reinventing the wheel with what they're doing. Maybe Mike and the band Standing on the Corner I'll give that credit to cause that whole sLums wave inspired Earl to strip things down.
zu were too ahead of they time fr i barely listen to “tumblr rap” cuz most of it aged like milk (outside of robb/sgp/lil b) but zu tapes always sound fresh somehow
lofty dropping intimacy cassettes soon btw

That early Soundcloud/Tumblr era was really something special and I sometimes feel bad for the younger generation of kids who missed out on that forreal. Lotta the new rappers they listen to were directly influenced by so many rappers and producers during that time.
In for the Intimacy collection
