i think you're probably right. i'm not american and it always struck me how f***ed and deeprooted a lot of racism is growing up there as a naive little kid to a hippy mom. i can see why it would trigger people to feel like racists can use these symbolic messages to "remind you of the scars" of this country

i don't think US patriotism is necessarily all bad. the US has done a lot of good for this world too, and i wish the younger generation wasn't so sheltered and close minded. it's a lot worse in most of the world right now. i'm an immigrant to the US myself and i'm thankful for the opportunities, but i'm neutral as for my "patriotism" and feel i have a healthy understanding of what it means to live in a "global world"

my best friend who is a typical white american who loves football and america and bud light etc. would get annoyed at me when i wouldn't take off my hat at a bar or if i tried to talk to him during the anthem for example, which i always found kind of weird.. and it kind of goes to the heart of this argument

some people take this s*** way too seriously when they should be taking their own life seriously instead

i can tell you that the rich people gave up their allegiance to the USA long ago, unless you count the almighty dollar of course

I guarantee you nobody even watches or listens to an anthem before watching their favorite american player Luka Doncic play. Some people are just mad because a deviation from the status quo seems like an attack to them
