Nah they’ve got a point tho
imo it's a misdirection away from a real problem because it's a clearly packaged personal gripe directed as something radical rather than a real systematic critique. It's the same kind of issue when people correctly identify the relationship of the nuclear family to the system but then completely miss the point and start preaching parenting is mode of oppression.
The issue with public school is threefold, firstly the incompatibility of a central singular system whose latent purpose is monolithic socialization with a non-monolithic society, and secondly that public schooling - supposedly a socialized tool - is a reflection of pre-existing social class esp. in a geographic sense (poor schools = poor education, rich schools = good education generally in the US due to underfunding, regionalism, etc.), and lastly that schooling is not actually about equipping people w/ skillsets or "education" in a general sense but rather arbitrary standards of education relative to subsets of societal structures. Focusing specifically on homework is just kinda
, it's be like taking the focus on a non-unionized production job and saying the issue is that they're working at all and therefore the job shouldn't exist rather than the fact they should be unionized

Imagine dude trying to change a school's homework policy arguing that s***.
There's plenty of research out there that proves homework isn't really beneficial...especially for elementary students.
In the real world they ask you for empirical evidence before implementing such policy changes. Homework only exist because it correlates to higher standardized test scores.. not to prepare you for "life under capitalism."

to be fair there's no way people like that on twitter are gonna be anywhere near a policy influence in a million years
but yeah, I agree with you. I think real overhauling education reform isn't likely to happen in my lifetime in the US unfortunately.
this is gaining some traction...
you're telling me that a conservative from staten island in a public service union is saying wild s*** to people to rile them up, color me surprised

oh don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it's not weird, i'm just saying it makes total sense with who's saying it. growing up in relative radius of these types of people, it doesn't surprise me, these conservative public union dudes basically invented being extremely crass while still claiming to be conservative historically
these same mfs basically invented catcalling

tbh all of staten island isn't terrible as a whole, it gets a lot more s*** than it deserves, but for sure some of the worst people in the area are from there
it's kinda funny since it should be part of NJ, it has way more in common with like Elizabeth for example
