Oh yeah man I used to be indoctrinated... Believe it or not I was a super Christian.. I seriously almost went to ministry school and if not for some major life event I would've went... years ago... Around that same time certain things happened in my life that eventually caused me to question my beliefs bit by bit and seek answers among pastors and other church leaders on things that didn't make sense to me morally or that were contradictory in scripture.... Those answers became flawed rationalizations and obfuscations... I never really questioned why I believed what I believed... I just accepted it as fact and never did any introspection(I strongly believe most Christians don't do this) and virtually any Christian friend that I still have today don't do this.

Most people who claim to be Christians in my experience have either barely read the Bible or only read at Bible studies or whatever their pastor choses to teach them during service... The ones that do actually read it usually don't read it with the intent to see what does or doesn't add up within the framework of the story, but to simply see what lesson they can interpret... They also usually merge different descrepancies between accounts into one.

Years ago I decided to read work from New Testament Christian scholars and find what we know about the Bible and how it came to be.... More recently old testament has been a focus for me(this s*** is a fun hobby now and I like to debate) I also read from some agnostic ones as well.

I watched numerous debates (that I lost count) between some of them on different biblical claims and on biblical historicity.

I saw they largely agreed on most things we could determine as facts and could show their work with scripture and Greek translations, but the things the Christians agreed with were things NEVER taught in any church and still isn't in any church I've ever seen as it would have a potential large impact on those that would actually believe... The areas where they disagreed the agnostic or atheist conclusions followed based on the evidence... The Christian scholars didn't... They would always fail to address the contradictions and the large unreliability of scriptures.... There have been more than a few Christian scholars who became atheists after going through Bible School and seminary.

What pastors don't teach their congregations on Sundays and virtually all of them who went to seminary know this...

None of the gospels claim to have been written by the persons whose names it bears. They don’t claim to be written by an eye witnesses and they don’t claim to be written by people named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.... The earliest accounts we have is from Mark which is the earliest written and that's dated between 60-70 YEARS after Jesus' supposed death and resurrection... John is dated late first century.... We're talking 90-100 years after Jesus'supposed resurrection.

The Bible that we have today wasn't written by a single contemporary... We have anonymous works by no eye witness accounts of anything written in the New Testament about Jesus.... Jesus if he existed and his followers.... Would've spoke Aramaic.... Yet the earliest copy of what we have are copies of copies of translations of copies of a Greek text which most people read in English now... We have no way of knowing the truth of many of the biblical accounts as the earliest biblical accounts of Jesus... There are numerous things in the gospels that can't be reconciled with the actual text we have and this isn't even the half of it.

Most churches spend time doing is this:

The focus isn't on teaching the truth of the Bible at all... It's about prescriptions and appealing to emotions to secure your place in the church as a contributor of some kind be it monetarily or through you getting other people to join and spread the gospel.... Not all people in church leadership do this with bad intent(many do), but regardless of the reasoning this is what they do.

The younger you are the more effective it is at indoctrinating you... The worse shape your life is in the more effective it is at giving you hope and the "love" of people who don't know you, but share a common goal or desire ...The focus is on a shared feeling of empathy and community... A "we're in this together for something greater... An all powerful perfect being who loves us and can save us from our flawed imperfect unworthy ways"... The only true real positive things that exist within Christianity literally boil down to empathy and community... which aren't exclusive to any religion.

The emotional feelings aren't truly unique to Christianity or religion in general, but its hard for many to see that though or even seriously consider questioning something they've been raised with or had impressed upon by family, friends, and a community that shares the same strong commonality.
