DemieThat’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m not at all talking about whether they can get depressed etc when statistically they are proven to be more susceptible
My argument is that they knowingly get into this sport when they know what the media pressure is like. Is it correct of course not but if you know you enter a tournament you have to do the obligations. Which is why I respected Osaka withdrawing cause she wasn’t up for it.
The point of money is that companies like ESPN etc pay an awful lot of money to broadcast the sport and to get ROI which can be the useless media interviews but it’s engagement that they need to turn profit. You can’t say it’s pointless when that’s what makes the salary cap what it is lmao.
they get into this sport for a love of the game and desire to be great yet have to accept the media interviews as part of the job responsibilities
but if the format of the interviews is detrimental to their mental health what is the issue with designing a media interaction that doesn't trigger their mental health issues
the idea of sports journalists grilling athletes is outdated and almost all answers are generic anyways and do nothing for the sport. if ESPN invested in something less combative like a photoshoot with prepared statements nobody would give af and journalists could still get their narratives off and advertisers get paid
