What things happened tho? The US is the one who created the conditions for the taliban to exist, they are the ones who funded them, allowing for the overthrow of the socialist government of afghanistan. The US are the ones who invaded and occupied afghanistan for near 20 years. During that occupation, they did absolutely nothing to improve the material conditions of the afghani people, because that was never the intention. So now the damage has been done, the puppet government the US set up was weak, and had no way to keep its power once the US left.

Decisions made in the past will impact what happens in the present. These aren't excuses, these are historical facts. US imperialism and cold war fear mongering set it off in the 80s, and the effects of that will be felt for years and years to come still.
