idk how country is really doing this year, but we have some revolutionary s*** in electronic regarding dance, left field, and hardcore. metal/punk/hardcore world got a lot of crazy s*** this year, indie/alt generally felt solid, and anxiety rock or whatever really getting insane. new slacker rock like bar italia (still dont know what to call it) got some great new stuff too

obv underground and mainstream rap had its best run since 2019

2020 and 2022 got it wiped down but this year was great too

Big mainstream raps probably had better years, but it's been years since I liked this much music from this many genres

Deadass thought R&B was dead too and Lucky Daye & Leon Thomas are bringing it back for me

I dont think mainstream rap had a better year this decade

that doesnt mean I even really enjoyed much of it this year unfortunately, but there was a lot of heavy hitters a lot of people loved from older and newer rappers. I still like 4nem and its almost dry the most from the mainstream this decade. This year did get 2 great killer mike records and multiple cool juicy j ones though plus vince, ab soul, and schoolboy killed it. if jpegmafia is mainstream now its my top rap record + has 3 of my favorite songs this year easily

but nephew, rx papi, christ dillinger, chimp1, etc really put out some insanely good stuff in the underground.DORIS released a ton of great s***, Heems put out 2 amazing albums, Ra, and we also got amazing records for hadji and mitch - best ktt albums Ive heard. dj smokey and shadowwizardmoneygang had an amazing year. I could write a 10 page essay on detroit/flint rap in 2024, when will yall stop sleeping on babyfxce e?

chat piles record this year is genuinely amazing and if you ever liked deftones/similiar you need to hear it, they are on the same label as Have A Nice Life

people will bring up the knocked loose too, though I go back and forth if its better or not than kublai khan or the boundaries albums too - all heavy hitting mainstream records, but are more metalcore, chat pile is noise rock/anxiety metal and only slowly blowing up in mainstream
