If you haven’t been following this, the "Nuestra América Convoy"basically a massive international solidarity mission just converged on Havana over the weekend. It was a coordinated effort to break through the tightening U.S. embargo and deliver humanitarian aid as Cuba’s energy and economic crisis hit a breaking point earlier this year.

.Organizers like the Progressive International and CODEPINK ended up coordinating over 650 delegates from more than 30 countries.

—Jeremy Corbyn from the UK, Pablo Iglesias from Spain, and a strong showing from Latin American leftist parties like Mexico’s Morena and Brazil’s PT.

Butcalso Labor organizers and activists like Chris Smalls from the Amazon Labor Union was there, as was Greta Thurnburg

They packed it with about 30 tons of supplies, mostly solar panels and medical gear.

Cuba has been pushed to the point of imminent humanitarian "collapse", warns the United Nations. "Our guiding principles remain unchanged: To be present. To support. To act based on cooperation, respect for international law, and the UN values," said the organisation's most senior official in Cuba on 5 February. Drawing on these principles, the Nuestra América Convoy aims to bring urgent relief to the Cuban people.

Just hilarious to me the mental gymnastics American Cubans who know nothing about what is like to live there will do to justify this stuff . “Why is it a talking point now, why is it political now, you lefties are ignoring what Cubans are saying about this themselves” etc etc as if Cuban Americans aren’t susceptible to the same propaganda the rest of us are related to Cuba and as if this is a partisan issue.

Two things can true at once: the govt there has been authoritarian and at times corrupt and cruel however the embargo and blockade is crime against humanity and has handicapped them for 60 years.

I know that the us is a major cause of all issues there. Basically got a Cuban friend who whines anytime I try to say there’s more nuance to this situation than Cuba bad and then he goes into familial anecdotes refuses to acknowledge any good in the country etc

I shouldn't have popped off on u like that instead of having an actual convo but my point is it's laughable to describe the cuban government as those things

especially in the context of the sheer scale and power dynamic of having a much larger country starve your country, control its trade, basically waging warfare (look into how sanctions can affect a country in many identical ways that an actual war would do to them) in every way except literal on the ground troops because Cuba didn't allow itself to be a slave colony completely subservient to the United States forever

Anything the Cuban government has done wrong pales in comparison to what the US has wrought on it. so much so that its useless to give any ground to the other side of the argument imo

No country is ever forgiven for breaking free from the chains of their colonizers. Thats why all these 'progressive' or 'democratic' countries whether in europe or the US itself are full of s***.

There's no nuance to where "The US side maybe has a point here" or something like that its just evil
