Since 2016, four albums have won that released two calendar years before the year of the ceremony:

2016 - 1989 (released October 2014)
2017 - 25 (released November 2015)
2018 - 24K Magic (released November 2016)

There’s precedence for GNX to win, but the Grammys should’ve changed their eligibility period years ago. Doesn’t really make sense to me for it to be from September to August, because the last quarter of the year usually features huge releases that then have to wait an entire year and a half to be nominated

For sure, and the impact the whole battle continues to have today, which is inherently tied to the GNX era, really makes it possible for him to win

also does feel like those songs give gnx the advantage of having some versatility when it comes to aoty, something that the other nominees for that one probably dont have

People keep asking this, and I get it, but the issues with the Grammys was them constantly getting it wrong and not having the knowledge to even begin to award black artists and black art

While it's not perfect, or even close, I do think they are trying to do better, and they get it right more than in the past, and regardless to if you think they are meaningless or not, it can and still has changed young artists lives by winning on this scale because of their art

2022 - Donda nominated for AOTY, Call Me If You Get Lost wins RAOTY
