GNX being the first hip-hop album to win AOTY in 20 years would be embarrassing

Whatever makes OVOFreight the most upset is the best outcome

  • Laced

Swear quadra got banned for that before smh

Quadra enjoys making weird jokes about deceased people. He said Kendrick would be Tupac’s “batty boy” before too

  • Misfit

aoty usually just goes to who they f*** with the most, it doesn’t necessarily have to be an album that made a lot of noise

Eh, while you’re right to a certain extent I think the album still has to make some kind of measurable impact.

Mayhem made an impact yes, but mostly off the strength of that one single that was already nominated at last year’s awards. Besides that, the album pales in comparison to GNX and DTMF

With the super bowl coming up, it's just too easy to have Bunny do a layup

    Yup.

And the Grammys really don’t like rap like that, never have. They have their preferred winners (Kendrick, Tyler, Kanye and Eminem for years), but even with the changes within the voting panel, a pop album is always more likely to win.

The only 2 rap albums to win were 1 that was a fusion of Neo-Soul and the other one got lucky that it was packaged with The Love Below.

If GNX loses this I don’t know if we’ll get another rap AOTY winner anytime soon, or ever

It's never too late with this rap s***

    I hope

  • The way I see it either Kendrick gets a lot of awards or none. Kind of dumb for GNX to get AOTY, not get RAOTY but still get SOTY or ROTY.

  • I didn't even realize Lady Gaga had an album out last year so maybe she's gonna get it

The Grammys have showed more love to rap since they revamped the committee, that’s one of the reasons Doechii won, I think they have more black women in the committee as well, could be wrong but I think I read that somewhere

  • flizzy

Yeah but against DAMN, 4:44, AML and Melodrama it’s arguably the weakest

Stiff competition but it's really good tho

Yeah it’s better but it had to be after giving Macklemore the award for best rap album over GKMC.

Not to mention the obviously timely subject matter on the album

For sure, but that’s why I don’t go into the Grammys the same way I did back in those days, they aren’t perfect obviously but it seems like rap gets more love lately

Maybe I’m wrong and Kendrick does get the dub tonight.

I don’t have high hopes though. I remember a few users on here were convinced SZA was gonna snatch AOTY for SOS, and I kept telling them “Nah it’s going to Taylor.”

    And guess what….

    It went to Taylor

Not really bro, your niece is basically the target demo

  • Last year’s show had some really great performances, especially the Best New Artist Medley.
