Facts, some people don’t want to admit it but a lotta the time, the music/art that people hold most fondly and dearly is just nostalgia related
its kind of an interesting insight that would make for a way better thread. there's sort've two kinds of music listeners
a) more of a secondary relationship, soundtrack to their lives/memories
b) as a primary text worth thinking about in depth & spending a lot of time investing energy into
neither is better or worse & ofc everyone is a combination or somewhere on the spectrum of those two poles. i think op is closer to a) & that type of listener generally drops off year after year with their interest in music . boomer archetype

Pac, BIG, Nas, Ye, Em, 50, Jay, OutKast etc…in rap
Radiohead, The Strokes, RHCP, Linkin Park, Blink etc.. in rock
Britney, *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Beyoncé etc… in pop
Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, Tego Calderon, Shakira, Aventura, Ricky Martin etc.. in reggaeton & latin music
Even electronic music was iconic back then. Never to be replicated imo mainstream was ALIVE
