not gonna lie.. the first few minutes of this were jarring... nothing like days .. I grew to appreciate for what this was as I got used to this style... I can see how this Will go down as a classic, but also hated too lol I wish Boyle was directing the next one
gonna see this with friends tn is it imperative that I watch the first/second before? or will I be fine going into this blind?

you don't need to watch either, still recommend watching the first
Movie was dope you trippin. I'm glad they did something different. It's a million zombie movies, shows, books and games out now. They could have easily made something we all seen before and pppl would b**** and moan that it wasn't original. Though there are definitely familiar elements here, I believe the new stuff they tried worked. There was some amazing sequences here, especially the cinematography and music. The ending before the very end was moving too, didn't expect that. I'm ready to see where the next movie goes. Luckily it's supposed to drop in January. I wonder if the survivors of this movie will return.
so, i thought everything about the movie was cool. The movie had some gorgeous shots, the acting was pretty solid and the action sequences were pretty cool too. I love the sniper elite esque moments, when they shot the zombies with arrow.
What i didnt like it was the f***ing story. the first half is pretty solid, i just dont f\*\*\*ing understand the second half. Like im really supposed to believe that the kid, who was f\*\*\*ing scared s\*\*\*less when he was with his father, managed to find the courage to go look for a doctor out in the mainlands all by himself, with his ill mother, like really? and he couldnt convince anyone from the village to go with him? but whatever. Then it comes that swede rr , that from the moment he showed up, i was just counting the seconds for him to die. That comedy moment when he shows his girlfriend, for me personally, didnt land. It just felt way too out of place. Then they find dr. Kelson, which is probably the first human being in the face of history, who is a man that collects and burn corpses, get theirs skeletons to build shrines or whatever, and he is, somehow, completely sane and not crazy. He say that hes covered in iodine, because the virus doesnt like it or whatever and that information doesnt escalate to anything. You would think that later on, when that kid is on his rambo s\*\*\*, he would cover himself with that, but no. Then the doctor examines his mother and concludes she has cancer and i kid you not, the funniest line of the movie was, when she said like "oh i knew i had cancer, but i didnt wanted to tell you" LIKE B\*\*\*\*, IF U KNEW U HAD CANCER THEN WHY DIDNT U SAY IT BEFORE. IT COULDA SAVE THIS WHOLE F\*\*\*ING NIGHTMARE TRIP. Then whatever, theres nothing they can do, the doctor shoots a dart on the kid, which i still wonder what the f\*\*\* did it do, he kills the mother, burn her corpse, give her skull to the kid and that pipsqueak is completely fine and not scarred for life with everything hes seeing, and places her skull on top of that shrine. That whole doctor scene blew my mind on how f\*\*\*ing ridiculous it was. Then the kid goes back to the village, with that baby, but then he goes back to the mainland and the whole time im like "why??" why the f\*\*\* did he go back? Im not f\*\*\*ing letting that 5 minute ending be interpreted as a post credits scene and a setup for the next movie. Cause if that was the case, LET IT F\*\*\*ING PLAY POST CREDITS DUMBASS. That s\*\*\* was f\*\*\*ing lazy and it didnt make no f\*\*\*ing sense

I do think the dad should’ve went with him on the journey on the 2nd half. It could’ve been a whole argument and then the dad says fine, let’s go so I can prove there ain’t no doctor type s***

i just dont understand the decision of not including the father on the second half. I didnt get convinced that he didnt love his wife enough that he wouldnt go and see the doctor. And yeah, he cheated on her, but that man is gorgeous he deserves to get some p**** every now and then

It was odd but I think it was for sure to let Spike shine and he did. Plus this is the first of the trilogy so I expect to obviously see more in the other movies.

Bro was a whiney POS who punches walls and slaps his son when he’s angry lol . Glad his ass wasn’t apart of the second half

i mean i get it, but it was just so lazy. It could've been done way better. The whole writing on this movie felt lazy. Like the first expedition, i still dont fully get it why it had to be done. Like it was for loot or because its a tradition to make children into man? i feel like it wasnt explained clearly. Explaining how the normal zombies evolved into alpha zombies, by saying "oh its like a steroids thing, but i dont know what steroids is" is so funny. Among many other things.
i mean, i wasnt expecting the writing to be top tier, because the whole movie series wasnt really about that, but it started off so f***ing well and it just nosedived so hard, so it bothered me
I don't think the father going for the journey in the 2nd half makes sense, if I had to guess he knew that she had some incurable disease like cancer. Even she mentions that she thought she had cancer when the doctor gives his diagnosis. I think he had completely given up on her, hence kept her secluded and even cheated on her.

but hes also someone who willing to give up his own food for his son, willing to give his own life for his son and i assume was taking care of his ill wife.
See, thats my point, if slapping his own son and punching the wall is ENOUGH to make him a piece of s***, then thats f***ing lazy writing

somebody should've told the f***ing kid, it woulda saved that whole f***ing trip

To me it was important to show his dad doing very s***ty things like cheating on his wife , lying to and about his son , and slapping him. It makes spike’s moment of defiance feel real especially since he was living a very sheltered life and the person he was closest to was his mom. 12 was around the same age I realized my dad wasn’t who I thought it was as well . Just as much of a coming of age movie as it is everything else

yeah the cheating was obviously f***ed up, but tbh the lies he told his son i thought were completely fine. So he told him there were no doctors left (which also thinking about it, theres not really ONE doctor in that village?) when in reality, the only doctor he knows it exists, is a f***ing psycho who collects bodies and burns them in a forest. Like i wouldn't want my son to be near that mf aswell. And the other lie, was about his wifes illness, which also, if i was in his position i would tell him the truth, but i completely understand him not saying shes gonna die.
