one of the albums of all time
True but I’m convinced Earl did it on purpose to take the pressure off of following up this album.
Tabula Rasa literally means a clean slate.
He didn't want people thinking this was gonna be SRS 2.
album came out at a very tough time in my life. everything just hit. easily a top 10 album of all time for me
amazing album
As a fan of Earl since the beginning and loving his evolution as an artist—I still just don’t get this album.
It honestly would hit differently after taking two shots before taking the bus home from work, letting the entire album soak on your way home because of how short it is.

I like plenty of experimental music and contemplative records, but nothing he’s going for on that album resonates with me. I think it’s all very interesting in theory, but not in a way I find compelling. I just can’t wrap my head around it being so many people’s favorite album of all time or in their top 10’s. The production is neat but does nothing for me. His delivery doesn’t elicit any feelings out of me. The lyrics are great but I don’t think any music can survive solely off of them. I don’t think any of its pleasant or deliberately unpleasant in a unique enough way. There was this sinister droning darkness all over the two albums he did prior to it that’s just totally missing from SRS. That element of his work is what drew me in to begin with. I prefer how he evolved the sound after this with the even stranger Feet of Clay and ultimately the more refined “accessible” SICK!. This just feels awkward to me. Like a blueprint for a style I’m not particularly fond of.
