It's this old newspaper comic my old man's obsessed with from the 40s that Walt Kelly drew, he was a Disney animator who went into the comics business
Pogo was a possum that lived in a Georgia swamp and would muse on various philosophical insights with a gang of animal compatriots that included Albert, the alligator on the cover of Fast Trax 3 (see below). It's a very distinct design, so I doubt it's totally unintentional
