the album gets talked about a lot but i do think if this ever officially released it changes the trajectory of a lot of things

can’t say for sure that any of his actions or things he said would have changed, but i think the public perception a good chunk of people have that is “he fell off post yeezus/post TLOP” wouldn’t be as popular. this s*** had a lot of potential to be one of his more accessible pop-rap records.

Yeah but he never finished it so basically it would have been an album filled with demos and it would have basically killed his career as an artist in that moment ngl

well yea i guess? idt he woulda dropped it unfinished tho. if he wanted to do that it would have dropped lol
This era was really more about the vibes and his mindset at the time than the music tbh, but that said there’s some absolute GEMS from that era

By that time, Kanye was over radio/mainstream popularity and on his religious s***
Ye is never "over radio/mainstream popularity" it's one of the biggest misconceptions about him.
He'll give an interview saying he doesn't care about the numbers, but then when one of his songs doesn't chart as high as he thinks it should, he does the shocked Pikachu meme and then does another interview where he rants about it. For some reason, a large portion of this fanbase only focuses on the former and acts like the latter doesn't happen.
Then there's the elaborate rollouts where he creates as much attention as possible before dropping.
He absolutely cares about his popularity in the mainstream.

I haven't heard him ranting about mainstream popularity or numbers since like 2018. If he still cared then he would do proper rollouts and release at the right time like a normal artist that wants to sell well

During the Yandhi era he said that he really misses hearing himself on the radio.
During the JIK era he mentioned how it would be really cool if a song all about God/Jesus could go #1
I don't know about the DONDA era cuz I wasn't really paying attention to his interviews, but the point of the rollout to get as much attention as possible obviously stands.
To me, the idea that if he really cared about numbers he would do proper rollouts/promotion doesn't really make sense. I think it's quite obvious that making himself the most talked about person in the world for like a month straight does far more to boost his numbers than any conventional rollout would.

Yeah Yandhi era was 2018, last time he really complained about radio/mainstream popularity. I don't think Kanye did the listening parties strictly for promo, it was basically performance art if you saw the design of the stage and everything. I think Kanye just does what he wants at this point, he isn't trying to just make hits and be popular anymore. Yandhi era was the last time he really tried that. He just does a lot of weird s*** which only holds him back if those were actually his intentions
I'm sorry but 80 Degrees will always s*** on Hurricane
nothing wrong at all with this take. lots more emotion imo in the ye hook than the weeknd’s. whole tone of song changed basically

Listening to Donda Hurricane just makes me want Ye warbling over the chorus
The obsession over OG Hurricane set humanity back decades.
Hilarious take but I agree with this
People realy prefer Ye's garbled nonsense hook over Weeknd's glorious and epic sounding hook
while on this topic does anyone per chance have the OG 80 degrees? the tracker is just impossible to navigate on mobile
