03 50 was probably the greatest moment in rap history. Nigga got shot 9 times, his opps died, name dropped his opp on his debut album, sold 800k fw, came out with a classic album and a top 10 rap song of all-time, became a global icon after being blackballed, and did it all while living his raps. He's literally who all these new niggas highkey wanna be and market themselves as.

50 had the biggest popularity peak I've ever seen in a rapper. I know Eminem was technically bigger by the numbers but 50 and G Unit was everywhere and inescapable.

Teachers in my old school would say "G-G-Guniiit" in the most cringe way to try to be cool. And my old pastor preached a sermon that had a reference to 50 surviving 9 bullets lmao.

It was a great moment in time and 50's still very popular. This white girl I know who's only 19 recognizes In Da Club and Candy Shop with ease and she wasn't even old enough to experience his peak.

50 cent was lowkey my introduction to hip-hop. It was also the first time I ever saw kids at school discussing music. Think about how big you have to be to even reach kids in elementary. We didn't pay attention to Rap like that, but he was so big it was inescapable.

Difference is that 50 started off being a straight goon and told people his story through music but he was smart enough to transition to becoming a mogul/businessman and step away from that lifestyle.

A lot of new rappers are so stuck on authenticity that they don't even focus on making those steps. They think you gotta remain a goon forever. 50 even tried to give Keef solid advice during that old collab they had but he rejected it. Keef still did well though.

Yooo....this is so true. Technically, Nelly was the 1st rapper I ever heard on the radio but 50 was the first time I started becoming aware of a rapper and rap in general. My mom was religious so she tried to keep me away from rap but I still heard about him and his music everywhere.

I remember as a kid we used to talk about 50 like he was the coolest person in the world or like a superhero.

I used to also think Candy Shop was a song about candy until I smartened up lol.

To be fair, Supreme was facing charges at that time. A lot of these other dudes don't have the same luxury 50 had and 50's opps targeted him specifically. Not like his crew was dropping like flies.
