I don’t know about y’all, but his never-ending need to categorically target black artists that make/made music with “harsh” and “hostile” undertones like Keef never sat right with me. He would goad them into a redundant beef after they’ve made it clear they’re not interested in that sort of spectacle anymore, enlist an army of impressionable and overstimulated children to harass them into a reaction, and then relax behind his hired muscle during the fallout. He was for real actively trying to provoke artists into becoming what their still-lingering reputation says they were then profiting off it. Keef and Reese were nothing more than pawns in his and his fans’ eyes. It felt and still feels racist.

Normally, I’d agree and we wouldn’t be having this conversation, but the saga of 6ix9ine even prior to his time in prison was somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. He had real estate in every headline for months and most of that press was produced because of him doing what I described in the post.

Believe me, I’m the first person to ignore this sort of s***, but there was a moment among the chaos where we were being told he was here to stay. Everyone trying to convince us couldn’t have all been trolls and that’s the problem. I don’t like how close we came to the Sun. What he did shouldn’t have been considered normal.

His brain believing rap is synonymous with that (especially in an era where that image didn’t make or break your popularity) is what feels racist. It’s the soft bigotry of low expectations.
