Inside one of the sports halls the refugees are staying at a 3 month old baby passed away. The people sleeping outside were given tents by some, but that's been prohibited now.

Been getting out of hand for a while.

Months ago in may the refugee center urged that there be an end to making a distinction between refugees from Ukraine and other countries, since there were 9000 beds free for them to use, but that didn't go through of course.

It's important to understand that this isn't happening out of incompetence or lack of capacity, it's a conscious policy that can only explained by racism.

As far as I know, the major problem lies with the municipalities. The municipal authorities don't want to open more application centers.

In addition, they do not want to offer shelter or homes to people with a residence permit. Since a couple years it's not permitted by law anymore to give priority to asylum seekers when allocating housing. That's why these people are stuck. In addition, there are unsuccessful asylum seekers who do not leave the country. They also stay. This makes Ter Apel overcrowded.

It's really about 1000s of residence permit holders. If municipalities were willing to take them in, there would be no problem

The cabinet can override their decision, not to mention the fact that there's overt discrimination against non-Ukrainian refugees face in getting access to places to stay at that the Ter Apel azc has called on to end months ago when it started to get out of hand.

The government has all the means to change this, it's one of the richest countries in the world, they just choose not to.

There's something deeply rotten about a country that has all the means to give shelter to these refugees and simply refuses to do so and instead let's them sleep outside in the streets.

People with an immigrant background here have been seeing through the bullshit for years, but the white supremacist nature of this country has only become more obvious this year with how different Ukrainian refugees have been treated compared to non-white refugees.

A large part of this country with an immigrant background is going sour on this country watching this all unfold and correctly recognizes that that could have been them, or their mother, or their 3 month old child that died in that sports hall. And even worse that the only reason this is the case is because this country doesn't recognize their humanity in the same way that they do of white people. Denying or staying quiet about this reality only makes it worse.

Same here in Germany with Ukrainians receiving more than any other immigrant has without any paperwork. My Iranian friends parents are livid because they HUSTLED themselves a good life and didn't get s***

I imagine it's like this in most western european countries, there's just a sentiment of getting definitive confirmation that we're second class citizens

They didn't mean it like this, at least that's what I read.
They wrote an article on it, but I cannot read it myself because of the stupid paywall.
    volkskrant.nl/nieuws-achtergrond/als-een-voorpaginakop-zo-anders-wordt-gelezen-en-begrepen-dan-je-hebt-bedoeld-dan-heb-je-iets-verkeerd-gedaan~b90dc47f

When I saw that headline I couldn't believe it was from the volkskrant. Wouldn't even expect that from De Telegraaf.

Lets hope Rutte IV won't make it till the end. Need some new elections.

The problem is what will we get back?
And on what party do we have to vote?

We need class first politics. People think their enemies are people who have even less thaj them instead of those who are profiting off their disposession at the top. I think the only way for solidarity with refugees to exisr is when working people recognize they have the same material interests as other workers who might have a different identity than them.

There is not any one party that follows this perfectly, but Bij1 at least doesn't concede on any economic issues even though they are a little cringe sometimes with some identity politics stuff, but that's mostly insignificant. Outside of that the now banned SP youth faction seems to do this really well.
