Wish more r&b singers would leave the trap soul alone too.
Mainstream r&b/pop is literally waiting for more talented artist and we got niggas who would rather sing over trap beats when the market is right there.
The Weeknd and to an extent Chris brown seem to be the only artist who take advantage of it
R&b singers should be looking at the Weeknd as the blueprint for what they should be doing. the fact that a black man is about to have the biggest song of our time with "blinding lights" and its a pop song
this trap soul sound and the overall rnb climate is so oversaturated people still listen just for the "vibessss" instead of something fresh
Not bait go from rappity rap to rap/sung where do you think it came from???
it came from the hook girl...rihanna
so if you think about it...everything traces back to riri

My mind first went to the instant gratification culture when I read the thread title, and while i think it still has a lot to do with it it isn't the only thing. Musical styles from around the world are more readily available than ever, and it only takes someone like Drake to put that on and make it popular.
The departure from the reliance on music theory and instruments/bands, coupled with the huge success of DIY bedroom producing also has a lot to do with it because tbh as long as music evokes a feeling, the means don’t matter.
I want to do more research on this this thread has inspired me. If anyone has any links to resources that’d be cool!
