808s didn’t invent singing and rapping, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000 and Bone Thugs already did it before
Drake’s singing isn’t influenced by 808s, it’s influenced by Classic R&B (sometimes pop, but rarely), when Drake makes songs like Hold on we’re going home or Jungle, he isn’t trying to imitate or replicate 808s
The only sign of 808s having anything to do with Drake’s success is from a few select songs on So Far Gone
808s is incredibly influential for many artists in modern day Hip Hop, but to act like Drake wouldn’t have a career without it is absurd.
Kanye 100% had an influence on Drake, but it mostly came from College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation, not 808s. And while he was influenced by Kanye, he was also influenced by Jay-Z, Joe Budden, Phonte and Wayne.
This didn’t need to be a thread
People are running with a false narrative, and technically no thread on this site “needs” to be a thread
Drake did something big for rap. He was the one that started doing the whole rap/singing thing as a combo without being designated as an R&B artist. This is one of the most important things that has happened in rap in the last decade. So no maybe not 808's but other than that Drake is extremely important/influential to all these new ass dudes.
This song has influenced almost every new song you hear, even if it's not direct influence.
Winter coming soon 808s jumping back into rotation
Bumping 808’s and Take Care in the Winter because you don’t give af about Stan wars>>>
You’re not entirely wrong
But songs like Houstatlantavegas & Lust for Life are clearly influenced by 808s
Ehh his earlier sound was definitely influenced by it. It’s a reason a 808s era Kanye song turned into an early Drake hit (Find Your Love)
not reading but there is no drake without Ye so it don't matter if this particular albums influence is exaggerated. Ye still birthed him

A song produced by Kanye himself isn’t an example of being “influenced” by him

Pretty sure he came up with the chorus

Realistically how many streams do those songs have and how significant are they to Drake’s career?
Best I ever had sounded nothing like 808s

GQ: What about "Lust for Life"?
Noah "40" Shebib: It came a little bit later when we were figuring out the direction of the album. When it started to take shape, this song just slipped into the mold. Kanye had put out that record at the time, anyway, he sampled "Tears for Fears" in it and there was this melody and Drake became crazily obsessed with this melody. "Coldest Winter!"
This is true. Doesn't get brought up often tho.
The way Drake sings sounds nothing like Ye's singing on 808s. He also started trying R&B before/around the time 808s even came out. The influence gets exaggerated all the time tho for some reason.

like it probably doesn't get brought up a lot but it still gets brought up enough

So a few isolated examples from So Far Gone
What Drake song after So far gone is 808s influenced?
