Throughout the year I’ve been going through Prince’s catalog and man there is so many gems here

How did he do it
and the fact he played all the instruments on all his s*** most of the time. definitely puts him in a rare class of artists
his drumming is underrated.
you just inspired me to go down Prince discog next after I'm done with the Stones
They hated Come upon release. Even Prince didn't want much to do with it. He'd describe it as an album of throwaways from The Gold Experience. Which is crazy to think about because during the recording of this album from 91-93, he was casually tapping into the sonic landscape and songwriting that could be seen/heard as the foundation of what we would come to know as neo-soul from the mid 90s-early 00s.
He was also tripping saying it's whatever lol Come is a great album

One of the many things I kept saying to myself going through each album was how much of a master he was with drums. No one did the drum machine like he did
the beautiful experience ver is candy

And is not overproduced, unlike the vast majority of "The Gold Experience" (that we ultimately got), as much as I love that album...

I hear a ton of neo-soul in this song for sure.

The kick on Housequake still trips me up when I hear it. Insane pattern
Diamonds and pearls is so ethereal and stunning sounding, money don’t matter is a top 3 prince song for me

This ones truly special
was some of the best music of his career, yes

I still need to dive into his discog past the 80s
While I like a ton of the music, it’s detriment is that’s a tall order to listen to all of it. Emancipation took a lot to get through
Literally my goat

Prince is such a GOAT. I rediscovered Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad this week, which was from 1979, and I'm reading this thread like...he really kept being that amazing for a couple more decades

Classicccc, his first 2 albums are mind blowing and super ahead of their time
My absolute favorite Prince song of all time
. Probably one of the few songs from his catalog I go back to. You can hear traces of D'Angelo, Maxwell, Bilal, Music Soulchild, Tonéx, and even Usher in this songs and other ones from that era
