I’m prob 3-4 years younger than you, (I went into college with Take Care). And it’s Fat D at number one and NWTS at #2 for me.
This album is insanely great.
Take Care dropped my freshman year of college too
To reference my age, I walked to college classes listening to So Far Gone and Comeback Season.
I've been around KTT for almost a decade, and I still hold Trilogy/Take Care as the best era of all time because I'm crusty and can't let that s*** go. I'm one of those people.
With all that being said, I think this is his best overall album since Take Care. It's got the most songs I've had on repeat and doesn't have any huge misses in my mind (except you gotta get the Baby Daddy version without Sexy Red, then it's a nice song).
Structurally, this is the most Drake tape we've gotten in a long time. Interludes, a timestamp track, a variety of genres, no complaints.
TLDR: I'd take this body of work over NWTS. Big compliment coming from an old head.
My highlights, for those who care:
Virginia Beach- Great sample, great intro, sets the tone perfectly. Classic Drake. 9/10
Calling for you- Does some interesting stuff with the verse, think it all works well. 8/10
Slime- SZA was great, solid overall. 8/10
Bahama- For me, the spiritual successor to Get Along Better, which was my favorite CLB track. Really loved this. 9/10
Tried our best- Some of his best wordplay. Impressive track. 9/10
Screw the World- Really cool of him to do this, love the history, great interlude following the last two track to adjust the mood. 8/10
Picasso- MAN that beat change and that sample. All the 40 you could ever want. 10/10.
8AM- A great timestamp track. Fits the album perfectly. I think timestamp tracks should be judged in context of the record. A 4PM track wouldn't fit as well. 9/10.
Gently- This song is wiener, I forgot about it in my opening. Definitely the low point. 0/10
Baby Daddy- Get the good version minus Red and it's a solid 8/10 good vibes. SZA does well again.
As a whole body, this tape spins the best in the car at night of all his work in my opinion. 1 skip track. Production is great for car audio on this one.
Drake has always been my go-to for late night drives, and for that reason FATD sits at a solid #2 on his discography for me, just under Take Care.
Damn. I was in University in Toronto when So Far Gone came out, am I a boomer? I thought I was a geriatric millennial 👀
That said, agree with a lot of your points. I think before FATD I was happy with the output the past few albums, but like Scorpion I can't listen to all the way through, it's either Side A or Side B. FATD is a great evolution of the TC, NWTS, Views formula, with it's own unique approaches. Opening and ending with singing is smart, he switched up the style, but kept it familiar.
If you genuinely enjoy drake as an artist you will definitely enjoy most of this project giving it a little time
If you’re someone who casually likes drake or dislikes him it might not be worthy the time investment. I don’t think anybody talking about “TRASH!” went into it planning to enjoy it anyway
Albums got better everyday 💨
Lol @ this being better than NWTS
Drake been dropping trash to mid music for so long now his stans have become delusional it’s actually really sad to see.
Niggas really been out putting trash like HNM and FatD above some of his best works it’s crazy.

Fellow “old-head” here, and I can’t even listen to old drake anymore, like he said it just sounds dated. I’m strictly 2020+ drake now. Love HNVM FATD and everything else
