  • Specifically talking about the livestreaming aspect of it here. From the three cryptic streams to the fourth one where we basically got a visual album + the reveal of three albums at the end

I see more artists using streaming in some way/shape/form for their rollouts in the future

As a fan did you find this rollout entertaining? Put your thoughts on the music itself to the side for this

  • indifferent.

like to most things related to him this decade.

  • The fourth one was ok, the first three were pointless imo.

Yea he went artsier than I would have expected but think he could’ve achieved that mystery while still giving us a bit more

  • stupid & i didn't really pay attention

I didn't follow it super closely tbh. The giant melting ice cube with the release date inside was cool, but everything else I'd caught glimpses of seemed a little embarrassing

yeah i thought it was cool that he was involving the fans with the melting ice blocks but then became kinda lame when they decided to let that streamer be the one to find the bag while keeping everyone else away from the blocks

In the first three episodes, it felt like he was approaching it from a streamer’s perspective, where it was actual live footage soundtracked by new songs and demos. As a result, it felt sloppy, vapid, and aimless. Also the music that was previewed in these episodes didn’t sound particularly fleshed out or interesting.

In the fourth episode, he figured out a better way to do it, which was creating a bunch of big budget music videos, stitching them together, and letting them play out as one long short film/visual album. This worked a lot better and made it feel like more of a fully realized artistic statement. And its the same format he used for FOMO, which achieved the same thing but had a bit more of a slapdash energy about it.

Overall, I like the rollout. I like that an artist with this much status is putting an emphasis on visuals in music again. For the past few years it’s seemed like the medium has become completely non-essential, since everyone is moving to short-form content. I think it’s really cool that he dropped like 45 songs and we got a visual treatment for damn near every single one of them! It helps the music feel more like there’s a world crafted around it

  • i thought the melting cube was stupid as hell

    cool album though

Def felt like he learned it in real time. He nailed episode 4 imo. I like the ideas of the first 3 but it was also like watching paint dry

  • too stretched out in time but overall pretty cool, album is cool as well.

Hiatus from episode 3 to 4 sucked, I get that he needed to cook up but I think it could’ve been handled better

Didn’t really care for the ice block melting just to stage the streamer finding it

All that being said, Episode 4 having high quality production and the 3 album surprise at the end more than made up for the lackluster rollout prior

Agree with all of this. It was cool to see the ideas/demos from the first three episodes come into realization on the album

Hearing Janice on stream and realizing it was “that’s how I feel” finished was an insane moment
