In the areas you’re talking about there already be hella resource officer type dudes there with guns. Not much is to be lost with the adversarial relationship between black kids and cops in schools. grown mfs already be slamming kids on their neck. That’s going to continue to happen, happened when I was in school and is a whole nother conversation with how black youth are viewed once they are old enough to talk coherently.

In white schools that currently don’t have that presence more metal detectors could definitely stop school shootings.

but we know realistically thats not how it will be applied. it will be applied to those schools that are viewed as "problem schools"

plus, i don't want any kids dealing with increased police presence on campus. it doesn't solve anything

Because it won't just be metal detectors lmao. it'll be enhanced security and police presence on campuses to actually enforce things when a metal detector goes off. but taht will also mean situations where children, disproportionately black children, will be targeted by those same officers

not to mention the type of enviroment that s*** will create in the minds of the children

I’d imagine a lot of schools already have resource officers/cops on staff. I don’t see how adding an additional depending on the population of students would be an issue.

Biased targeting is a completely different problem but as someone who has attended schools with metal detectors in the entrances I’d honestly rather be profiled than shot.

A preventative measure is still better than no preventative measures

you don't think a kid who wants to shoot up the school can't just open fire before hitting the metal detector and hell its even more convienent now because everyone has to lineup to get through

You can’t really say outright that they don’t work when the solution isn’t implemented on a larger scale.

The school I went to with metal detectors I never saw a gun, school I went to without them a nigga showed his strap in his book bag.

I’d be silly to say that metal detectors are a foolproof deterrent even with actual experiences supporting that.

No I don’t think anyone thinks that.

There are going to be scenarios where it helps and scenarios where it doesn’t.

A 6-year-old boy is in police custody after he shot a teacher at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, Friday afternoon, Police Chief Steve Drew said in a news conference.

“The individual is a 6-year-old student. He is right now in police custody,” Drew said. “We have been in contact with our commonwealth attorney and some other entities to help us best get services to this young man.”

Drew said the female teacher – who is in her 30s – was shot inside a classroom and added that “this was not an accidental shooting.”

The police chief said there was an altercation between the teacher and the student, who had the firearm, and that a single round was fired.

How tf a 6 yr old go to school with a gun

Parents or whoever the person is that the gun is registered too that doesn’t lock their s*** up should absolutely be charged for whatever crimes happen using their gun.
