Stellar Pizza
A new advancement in pizza technology received huge backing from Jay-Z last October. According to Rolling Stone, Jay's Marcy Venture Partners was the head investor in the Los Angeles-area startup Stellar Pizza as they raised money to build robotic trucks that make pizza from scratch.
Beauty Brand Madison Reed
In April of last year, Jay-Z's venture capital company, Marcy Venture Partners, joined forces with Sandbridge Capital to invest $33 million in the beauty brand Madison Reed.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the company, founded by Amy Errett, will use the funds to expand its hair color bar presence with plans to add locations in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.
Flowhub
Jay-Z invested $19 million in marijuana software company Flowhub, a cannabis point-of-sale based company in Denver, in 2021. The company, founded by Kyle Sherman, aids marijuana dispensaries with processing sales transactions, monitoring inventory, keeping track of a***ytics and more.
Oatly
In 2020, Jay-Z joined Hollywood heavy hitters Oprah and Natalie Portman in investing $200 million into Oatly, a Swedish plant-based milk company that produces milk, creamers and ice cream. According to The Beet, the European brand sold a $200 stake to Jigga's entertainment company, Roc Nation, Winfrey, Portman and former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
Oatly, which made its way to America in 2016, raised $1.4 billion in its U.S. initial public offering in 2021, Reuters reports. The company was reportedly priced 84.4 million, amounting to American depositary shares at $17 each, which suggested that Oatly was valued at $10 billion at that time.
Tidal
Back in 2016, in partnership with several of his peers including his wife, Beyoncé, and Rihanna, Jay-Z purchased Tidal music streaming service for $56 million. Two years later, he sold 33 percent of the platform to Sprint in a merger for an undisclosed amount.
Then, in March of 2021, Jay-Z sold his remaining stake in Tidal to Jack Dorsey, owner of the mobile company Square and former CEO of Twitter for a reported $302 million.
Uber
According to Forbes, Jay-Z purchased a $2 million stake in Uber, the ride-sharing app, in 2013. The company is now worth nearly $60 billion.
Brooklyn Nets
In 2004, Hov purchased one-fifth percent of the Brooklyn Nets back when their home turf was still in New Jersey. The team was later relocated to Jay-Z's birthplace, Brooklyn, N.Y., where they were renamed the Brooklyn Nets. Jigga's $1 million investment is valued at $3.5 billion as of October of this year. He sold his stake in the team back in 2013.
