The first deal was for 2 albums but the label was able to get some wiggleroom using the wording of the contract to release So Far Gone as an EP since the contract didn't explicitly state that they couldn't do that.
He resigned for a 3-album deal right before Nothing Was the Same dropped and that deal ended with the release of What a Time to Be Alive (he resigned again in summer 2015).
He resigned in summer 2015 for a 4-album deal that started with Views and was meant to end with a fourth album in 2019 but instead, he turned Scorpion into a double album and convinced the label to consider it as 2 albums, which they did.
His current deal was done as early as 2020 but because of how huge/unprecedented it is, it only got finalized in 2022 and that's when Lucian Grange was able to talk about it in his scheduled label meeting and that's when publications were able to report on it.
if he retires now he'll never be in the goat conversation
Let him retire. He don’t got it in him to make good songs
No idea what that’s referring to without the interview in full, but IMO the most “graceful exit” is just the half retirement of Jay with 4:44, where you release a great possible last chapter but still come back every once in a while with some verses you’re excited about. Rappers retiring doesn’t seem to be much of a thing, but radically slowing down output seems to happen, and seems to be the way.
I personally think music will be in a weird space when he does decide to retire. ESPECIALLY if there are no upcoming artists that have the entire “package”. It’ll feel like there’s this void in music when he decides to step away considering the fact he’s dropped music consistently for 10+ years. Dude has had a great career.
We’re still getting a couple more albums at least and I doubt he’ll ever fully stop making music. He is almost 37 though so taking a step back isn’t surprising.
But there’s no way he’d leave rap with a collab album as his last project. He’ll do a full rollout and market it as his farewell project for sure if that’s what he’s thinking

He's clearly not retiring right now lol. He's just saying it's a thought he's been entertaining for a while and acknowledging that it'll happen sooner rather than later.
I think he retires sometime before the end of the decade. He turns 40 in 2026 so maybe around then.

Didn’t say he was. Just meant that even if he was considering an imminent exit he wouldn’t retire with a collab album as his final project. He’s gotta finish his deal anyway so he’ll at least see that out
i don't keep up with his record deals but someone just said he's gonna be releasing a high volume of music cuz of his record deal so this is cap, no?

Cap. People just saying that cause he signed a 500 mil deal and released clb, hnvm and her loss back to back but he also dropped iyrtitl, wattba and views back to back lol

I don't think it's Cap. No way of knowing this obv but think both could be true.
he's a workaholic who has always loved to release music in a swift manner
But what also could be true is that ever since his first deal, it behooves him to get through them as fast as he can to get back to the negotiating table.
Clip sounds like bait
It's 100% bait lol watch it be about something not music related or him say he's not going anywhere anytime soon

How many albums does he have left to complete the current deal that he has?
CLB / Her Loss / HN are a part of this deal?

Two questions.
1. How do you know all of the specifics of these various deals?
And 2. Do you know how many albums are a part of the current deal?
Also I don’t think Drake will ever seriously transition into acting. His entire career since 2009 he hasn’t taken a single legitimate acting role outside of an Ice Age movie lmao
Does he like to do little skits here and there with comedic stuff? Sure. But I don’t think he’ll ever legitimately become a full-time or even part-time actor. We would’ve seen him take at least ONE semi-serious role between 2009 and now if that were ever going to be the case
Also, even if he "exits" gracefully I don't think he'll ever stop doing music anyway.
For starters, very few acts completely stop. Especially guys that are as popular as Drake. Paul McCartney is 80 and is the new drummer for The Rolling Stones lol
There's always a run, a residency, a random verse or hook on someone's album, an anniversary album w/3 new songs, that you can deliver and pick up a cool 50Ms.
Even if he did other endeavors, he'd never completely stop. His lifestyle not cheap and the music game is too good to him.
Musicians never retire. I don’t care who it is. Drake, The Beatles, Jay Z, Madonna, doesn’t matter. They never truly retire. Any time a musician says they are considering retirement, it’s either a marketing tactic or they’re gonna change their mind in the very near future.
Even Andre 3000 is still recording verses for people

Yeah, his current deal counts starting from CLB but I'm not certain if it's a 5 or 6 album deal. I'm working with 5 for now but I could be wrong.

People are only saying he'll go back to acting because he was an actor before he was a musician. Drake himself hadn't said/done anything that suggests he'll be going back to acting.
